intense traction

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I had these on a ski 149mm underfoot so with the high grip of these skins I could go straight up pretty much anything, the downside is that the glide is not optimal so I would not recommend these skins for longer tours

I have K2 Pettitor 189cm ,what size skins do you recommend

Responded on

Hi there,
A size 130-Long would be a great choice- you can trim those down to fit underfoot, and they will still give you enough coverage in the tip and tail

I have K2 Coombacks (167) what size skins do you recommend?

I also have K2 work stinx and it would be great to use them on both skis, but not required.

Responded on

Hi there,
For the Coombacks, a 100-short would be a great choice that would give you enough coverage. They would be too wide to be compatible with the Work Stinx though unfortunately

would the 130 XL or 140 XL be better for a pair of 185 Blizzard Cochise?

Responded on

Hey Con,
They both will work for that ski. The 130 should provide plenty of coverage throughout the ski without having to trim to much excess material. I would go with the 130 Long for the 185 Cochise. The XL would be slightly too long for those skis.

Awesome Traction

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This skin works awesome. Used it a few times so far and I have been very pleased. The skin cutter which can with the package made my life much easier when setting up to my skis.

Definitely Better than regular Skins

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Got these skins because I was slipping on steep climbs on my regular G3 Alpinist skins, while my friends on Ascension skins went right up. I like the G3 tips - they fit my blunt tipped skis well, and are able to fit several different pairs of skis, so I wanted to stick with G3. They do make a noticeable difference going up, and I didn't notice any extra drag on the flats, either. But I did notice the glue is not as good as my other G3 skins - these tend to come loose here and there and build up ice and snow between the ski and the skin, and they required a scraping between laps in order to get them to re-stick.

Best Gripping Skins I Have Used

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These skins grip everything great. The only thing is since they grip so well you loose a bit on the glide. Great for steeper terrain. Longer less steep approaches i would go with the G3 Alpinist. I am very pleased with them thus far.

2012 Atomic Aspect Skis 180 cm - what size and width of skins are recommended?

Responded on

Your skis would work with a medium or long length G3 skin. I did a little googling and found that your skis are 120mm wide at its fattest point. So based on what we have in stock the medium 130mm skin is your best option. Enjoy!

I have a pair of K2 Backups 167 cm (124-82-105). What size and width of these skins should I get? 115mm or 130mm

Responded on

Hi there,
A 115mm will be more than enough- you will not need to cover the entire base of your ski, just making sure that you have full coverage underfoot will be the most important!

my volkl nanuq's are 114-96-131, which size would fit best ?... 85 mm short or the 100 mm short (will have to trim ) ?...

Responded on

Hey Tony,
I would recommend going with the 100mm and trimming them down underfoot. That way you'll get a little more coverage in the tip and tail!

I have a pair of DPS 190 - 128,112,142 is it better to get the high traction130 or G3 alpine 140 I don't see the 140 length offered in the high traction

Responded on

I think you have to get Black Diamond or K2 since they need to be cut on length as well as trimmed....
I don't see any G3 shorter than 153 cm.

Solid So Far

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Put these wall to wall on some lhasas and I can pretty much walk up walls (as much as one ever can). Glue performed well in a very cold dawn patrol and they seem to be a solid product.

As mentioned in another review, they DO come with skin savers, which was not totally clear form the description.

Exactly as advertised

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

It's a commonly asked question, so I'd like to point out that these do come with both the skin savers and the trim tool. They also come with a storage bag. I actually bought skin savers on accident, so didnt want anyone else to make that mistake!

These skins are exactly as advertised. I've used the regular G3 alpinist for a while and really like them but i did find myself slipping on some steeper wasatch skin tracks so I gave these a try. Definitely a noticeable amount of extra grip but also a noticeable loss in glide. If you do steep skins or find yourself slipping these will definitely help! If you do long flat approaches, you might wanna stick with the regular alpinist which is more of a middle ground on grip and glide. My skis are 190cm long so I got the x-long and they fit perfectly. Overall, very happy with this purchase!

Andy,
The G3 High Traction Skins in the XL are 189cm in length and will fit anything from 189-199cm.

Solid SKins

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have been very pleased with these skins so far. I like the idea of the high traction and for the most part have no trouble gripping the snow on steep terrain. The tool G3 skins come with to trim the skin is very easy to use. The clips on these skins stay in place very well and I have never had any problems.

Will these skins work on a splitboard?

Will these skins work on a splitboard?

Responded on

Yes, you may have to modify the tail clip(I don't use tail clips..) to fit the shape of the board. You can get the G3 Twin tip kit and use that for the tails. Be sure to get wide skins. made that mistake once... Personally I like the voile\Black diamond skins for PNW snow.

Responded on

here is a step most guys go with that don't get splitboard specific skins. http://splitboard.com/talk/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=10228

great skins

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These are my first skins so I have no other reference to compare to, but they were great. Sticks to anything (ice, slush, powder) and allowed me to walk straight up some quite steep slopes. I was easily able to cut them down to size with the special cutting tool that they came with. Am riding with twin tip skis so would recommend the twin tip adaptors that I also bought.

How are these guys different than the G3 Alpinist?

Best Answer Responded on

These have I believe 20% longer plush than the alpinist skin for added traction.... so they have a tiny bit added drag but hardly noticeable compared to the added traction
