I just returned my second pair of these. With little more than 20 days on each pair, the top sheet had completely DE-laminated leaving the wood exposed along with my mounting screws. This is unacceptable for a ski I use extensively in the deep back country (at the time I was coming down from the summit of Red Slate Peak in the East Sierra). If I'm going to have an emergency, I don't want it to be due to shoddy ski manufacturing. I have an old pair of G3 Reverend skis that have over 250 days on them and while a bit softer, they are still the most bomber ski I own. Too bad these are now made in China. These boards do however rip ridiculously hard in all conditions. They were my favorite skis of all time... too bad they don't hold up to pressuring the edges.
A great all around ski, crud, ice, fast gs turns.... powder!
Can't find the top end
I've only got three days in on these boards and they are the fattest things I have ridden so I was surprised how versatile they were. I'm 6 foot tall, 170 pounds and I got these at 180 size. I still don't know if I should have gone longer but I have no complaint with the size.
First day out I took it easy as conditions were terrible but they even handled the hard pack and ice pretty well. I had no trouble holding an edge or even throwing them into some bumps but I wouldnt want to do that every day. Then I finally got in some lucky rare powder. NW snow that was pretty solid but not too heavy on 5 and 12" days but got skied up into some serious light mashed potato crud when the weather turned warm again.
I had heard it before but these things turn the crud into smooth sailing. Crud seemed to have little to no effect.
The most notable thing, even more than crud busting, was that they really want to GO!
I don't even know if they have a top speed. I have skied a lot, and hard, and for a long time. This is the first time I have ever felt that maybe this was more ski than I needed and that is exactly what I am always looking for. I've always felt I was pushing my skis but now I think the skis are pushing me. Outside of the powder I was usually working to slow them down and skid turns are not what these bad boys prefer but these are super friendly skis with an aggressive side of testosterone speed and I dont know what more I would want on a powder day.
