Based on an already proven touring-skin platform, the Backcountry.com Alpinist Skin features all the traction you need to climb deep into the mountains and a unique goat graphic that sets this skin apart. Temperature-defying glue keeps this skin stuck to your ski through bitter cold and surprising warmth, and a waterproof treatment helps the synthetic hairs slide with serious speed and efficiency. Attach the pivoting tip clips, clip the tail connector into place, and join the herd on the powder highway.

  • Low-profile tip connector uses pivoting clips that keep this skin securely attached
  • G3 tail connection system utilizes a laminated strap and metal clip that quickly and securely locks into place
  • Tail connection has adjustable tension, and the over-the-top design reduces tail strap wear by keeping the strap off the snow
  • Waterproof treatment prevents clumping when you transition from dry powder to heavy, wet mank
  • RipStrip makes it easy to pull off the ski and reduces skin-to-skin sticking
  • Skin savers are sold separately

Aside from graphic, are these exactly the same as the normal G3 alpinist?

Are these skins 'trim to length'?

Are these skins 'trim to length'?

Responded on

Nope, not quite. These skins are sold in a variety of lengths, which you can adjust with the tail clip. You will then have to trim them to suit the width of your ski. So while you do have to trim them, you are adjusting the WIDTH rather than the HEIGHT of the skin :) Hope that helps!

I wanted to give G3 a try as I've always used Black Diamond climbing skins in the past. Plus, how can you resist that lovable goat.

First off, I was thrown by the sizing, I have the 169 Atomic Millennium Ski, so naturally I ordered the 162-172cm length. They were way too short, and left a huge margin of bare ski on the tails. I ended up returning these and exchanging for the 171-181cm length, which worked better. If you are near the high end of that size range, you may want to consider sizing up to get proper coverage.

The cutting tool included with these is wonderous. So much easier to use than BD's! It lines up perfectly with your ski edge, and trims an accurate fit quickly and easily. These were ready in less than 10 minutes.

The cam clips are also great. I've lost numerous tail clips with my BD skins, which gets annoying really fast. These cam clips are here to stay, and I like the design much better. The tip clips also seem to hold the skins in place far more effectively than BD's giant tip loop.

So far I am really stoked on these. I've used them 4-5 times on various tours around the Wasatch. No problems with slippage or the stickiness of the skins. I always use the G3 Skin Saver mesh to prolong the life of the glue and this has worked well for me.

Overall, I would definitely purchase these again.
