    Not impressed

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have always used G3 skins since I started ski touring and split boarding, 6 years now.
I bought these not because I needed to replace my previous split board skin, but because I really liked the tip and tail connector.
The tip and tail connectors are great.
But the glue on these is not holding up at all.
First time I used them snow creeped between the skin and the board - never had that problem with previous G3 skins.
No matter how dry and clean the skin and board are it happens on the very first lap of the day and just get worse.
Now there are areas where the glue is coming off near the tip.
I have a grand total of 8 days on them!
unlike other reviews here these were bought this season and put into immediate use - so storage is not the issue.
They are hung to dry for 12 to 24 hrs every day they are used.

Horrible for a 161 Jones Solution

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The sizing that G3 offers is horrible. I have a 161 Jones Solution and the shorts left about 1-1.5ft of tail exposed, rendering them useless. I re-ordered the longs, and the skin coverage is about perfect, however the tail clips wont engage. Possible solution: punch on more hole close to the skin/skintail connection, or say "screw g3 and their BS" and buy more dependable Voile skins with tailclips. Not sure if I will buy G3 skins again until the sizing issues have been addressed.

    Worst Glue Ever

Had these for about a year before the glue decided that it preferred sticking to my skis, instead of the skin. Most of the glue is gone on the tail, and I have to bring a rag soaked with goo gone on every tour.

G3 won't even return my e-mails. Again, this happened after only one season of use. Awful. Reglueing my skins tonight and I will never buy G3 skins again.

Oh, and their traction isn't as good as the black diamond skins, but their glide isnt noticeably better to compensate.

Don't size for the masses, G3

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

A small DOES NOT fit a 163 Voile Revelator. Maxing out the small range only left me with inadequate coverage near the tail of the board. I could see how a different nose shape would allow the skin to center underfoot more, so this may not apply to boards shaped differently.

For reasons probably better not discussed, G3 has removed the medium length skins. They claim a more universal fit this way, but in the case of both my Voile Revelator and K2 Panoramic (161), the skins don't have enough coverage to be effective on a slick track.

Otherwise, I'm impressed by the build quality and techniques put into this skin. It seems like it will hold up for a while. The tailclips were a bit heavier and bulkier than I expected however-- if you're weight conscious there are other options.

    WORST skin glue ever

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

So I stored the skins in a cool dry place for the summer with a skin saver between them, the same way i have treated my Black Diamond skins for a decade... then I went to use these skins for the first time and the glue was a NASTY mess. Super sticky to the touch. Nasty sticky glue came off on EVERYTHING it touched, hands, pants, jacket, gloves, AND all over my board (which made it so it did not slide! I had to use wax remover and rewax the board!). This exact same thing happened to my girlfriend and my best friend. They both bought their skins new from Backcountry, so they got a warranty (still a pain in the butt), but since I bought mine from eBay (like new!) I attempted to "renew" them with an iron and paper bag. This did nothing, so I spent 4 hours with an iron and brown paper bags removing the G3 glue then applying Black Diamond Gold Label glue ($50). MAJOR pain in the butt, but at least I now have awesome BD glue on my skins.

What made me finally write a bad review is I just went to use the skin saver/ cheat sheet that came with the skins and they were covered in nasty sticky glue that got all over me. I just spent 30 minutes with an iron and newspaper removing the excess glue from the darned skins savers!

Worst Skin glue EVER. Whatever you do, don't buy G3 skins! Get the Voile!!!

Having said all that, the G3 skin trimming tool is pure genius. Props there.

FYI: Long does not fit Venture Storm 162

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I ordered the Long size for my Venture Storm 162, following advice that it is better than maxing out the small size. The skins are too long, even on the shortest adjustment setting. Backcountry is getting me set up with Shorts so I will follow up when I try those out.

Disappointed with G3's decision to eliminate the medium size.

Follow up: The Short size fits my 162 much better. They leave more exposed base near the tail of the board than I would like, but they will work.

PSA: DOES NOT FIT K2 SPLITBOARD

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

WARNING - the new G3 tail clip system does not work with "blunted" tail shapes i.e. K2 Ultrasplit... Seems like a good system for a typical rounded nose/tail shape, but anything elongated or blunted will not work with these clips

Wow. Just read this review after I purchased the Ultrasplit last month. Was planning on buying the G3 skins because I've read they're the best. What a bummer! What other skins did you find that fit the Ultrasplit?

These skins do work with the Ultra split. I was able to get a pair of these skins and photograph them on the Ultrasplit. The compatibility at the tip and tail is great.

Jason - what issues did you have with them? Mind posting photos? I've had success with these two products.

they will fit on the Ultrasplit in theory (clips work etc.) but like pretty much any other normal sized split G3's new sizing makes it almost impossible to get a good fit. i bought the Long size for my 164 and after struggling to get the skins on at the smallest setting they still weren't even close to fitting correctly. unless you have a really short or really long setup id recommend avoiding these skins entirely until G3 gets their sizing down. Voiles with tail clips have worked absolutely perfect for my Ultrasplit.

My splitboard is 163 cm long (Burton Landlord), so right in the middle of S and L sizes of these skins.

Which size will fit better to my board? And why?

I would set you up on the long. With the adjustments of 16 cm you would be able to work with these alot more than maxing out the small size

Would you have the same advice for a 161cm. So large instead of small... as to not be at the end of the spectrum for the small pair?? If there is 16 cm of adjustable range getting the large for a 161 cm should be ok........right....?

I went with the large ones and they're not really great for a 163 Landlord.

The tail clip is set on the last hole (the shortest possible setting) and it's a little too short, I'm just barely able to stretch the skins enough to put them on. I'm worried that it will stretch a little eventually and there will be no holes left. When the skins are on, they fit well, but the tail string is really long and it sticks out behind the board.

If I set in one hole longer (on the second hole), the skin is too loose on the board. Mind that this is all with the plastic foil still on, so without the skin sticking to the board.

So it's either too tight or too loose. I'm thinking of replacing them for the short size but I'm afraid it might be the same, just on the other end of the tail clip holes - at the end of the string. It's weird that there's no middle size anymore since most of the splits are probably in high 150s/low 160s.
