Avy gear, breathable outerwear, and energy gel are damn near useless if your climbing skins leave you struggling to keep up with the pack (argh … that’s the fifth time the skin has popped off the tip of your ski). Enter the G3 Women’s Alpinist elle Climbing Skins.

  • Innovative tip connector features pivoting (self-aligning) steel hands mounted on a curved, low-profile polyurethane crossbar, so the skin doesn't get kicked off as you ascend
  • Tail strap laminated directly into skin fabric creates a strong, low-profile bond that improves glide performance and reduces weight
  • Fast gliding plush fabric is lightweight and supple for enhanced performance
  • G3’s glue formula works exceptionally in all snow conditions
  • Ripstrip thin film placed on the sticky side makes it easier to pull the skin apart when folded

Bottom Line: For chicks who do it with free heels.

Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.

I would recommend getting a 130 width skin at least- Since these specific skins only go up to a 115 look for another skin. You don't need a women's specific skin, as the only difference is the patterning. Look for the regular G3 alpinist or expedition skins in a 130 (you will trim them down to match your ski) or better yet get a 140 in a BD skin. Either will work fine though.

First, the rear clip slides off my skis constantly unless it is cranked down extremely tight. But, more importantly, I couldn't figure out why I would slide backward on a steep slope WAY before my climbing partners would slip. At first I thought it might be poor technique, however, comparing the skins side by side with the others, the "fur" on these skins offers MUCH less resistance to sliding!!! AWFUL!

How do you adjust the length on these to fit your skis? It looks

How do you adjust the length on these to fit your skis? It looks like the clips on each end are permanently attached but the lengths are a range so there must be a way to adjust them to fit your ski. Anyone know before I decide on ordering these?

The tail and nose pieces do not remove. You need to buy these according length ( X short, short, medium long etc...) and width ( 100 mm, 115 mm ...). The tail clip is long with a lot of adjustment to stretch to end of tail. Here is the link for sizing: http://www.genuineguidegear.com/gear/skins/alpinist-elle-skins

Has DakkaGuru ever used these skins? From his/her bio I see he is a snowboarder so probably has no business answering questions related to ski skins. Please what a sham.

The fact that the tips are self-aligning and reduce fumbling with gloves or worse, bare hands in potentially cold wind trying to get your skins straight before you drop in and the fact that they're a moving part and probably cost more to produce are where the extra money comes from. The same reason a Coke is more expensive at a gas station than it is in a grocery store- convenience. Do you like run on sentences? I do.
