G3's Speed Pro Tech 320cm Avalanche Probe deploys quickly and smoothly, and helps you measure snow pits and snow depth in the backcountry. Speed cones on the ends of the segments help this lightweight avalanche probe assemble in no time, which is important when every second counts. The Speed Pro Tech 320's precise, laser-etched measurements mark every 5mm, and numbers at 5cm increments help you keep track of snow depth. With a 10ft 6in length, this probe digs deep during a search, and the foolproof tension mechanism on the cable ensures that the Speed Pro stays together.

Bottom Line: Measurements on G3's Speed Pro Tech 320cm Avalanche Probe help with your snow-science study, and quick deployment helps in the event of a slide.

Great techy probe

For someone who needs to know snow depth, and digs pits this probe is great. We all like the usefulness of having the cms marked off. It helps increase your knowledge and we know knowledge is power. The nut does need some focus to thread it and tighten the probe, and it should be dried out to minimize freeze up. The 320 is long enough for a deep burial, should you ever have to probe one! It is also a great length for checking snow bridges across crevasses.

Length does matter

Deploys quick and you will get used to the nut - but I keep my probe in pack instead of strapped to side. I strapped it to side of pack for a while and had problems with snow freezing on threads. Definitely was not good.

G3 buyer beware

I had this probe for one year, and began having problems within the first two weeks. I never did have to use it for rescue but regularly deployed the probe for digging pits, either the nut on the top wouldn't thread onto the bolt or the internal cable would freeze in one of the segments making deployment and occasionally breakdown impossible. I always dried and stored the probe as directed. I finally contacted G3 about this and they said to send it in for a repair, it may take 2-4 weeks though, G3 does not warranty probes.
