Carrying over the revised FLOAT air spring and FIT HSC/LSC damper from the 2016 model, the 2017 Fox 40 Float 27.5 203 HSC/LSC FIT Fork crushes your local downhill circuit with blistering speed and unflappable poise. Driven by the needs of downhill racing's most competitive riders, this is the same fork ridden by 2015 champion Rachel Atherton. And for good reason. Starting with the obvious, 203mm of travel and beefy 40mm stanchions provide robust support for conquering intimidating rock sections, high-speed corners, and bigger hits. Incredibly stiff and lightweight magnesium lowers and crown won't hold you back when every second counts.
The 40 Float benefited from a major overhaul in 2016, with the old negative coil spring replaced by a self-adjusting negative air design. Not only did this overhaul shave precious grams off the older version, but it also delivers smooth and supportive travel throughout its entire range of spring rates. Paired with a reduced number of smoother seals, the 40 Float requires less force to initiate travel than the previous iteration. Additionally, FOX uses a newly formulated, higher-viscosity fork oil for a smoother, more responsive feel.
You'll benefit from the ability to adjust its end stroke ramp-up with additional volume spacers for a more progressive feel. Adding even more customization, the FIT HSC/LSC damper fine-tunes its support to the course you're riding. Dialing in both settings lets you tune the 40 Float for a more forgiving feel on square edges and landings without wallowing out in high-speed dips, berms, and sudden rises. Moreover, its ingenious air bleed system ensures consistent performance when you're riding on high-altitude courses.
