Every fork has a purpose, a mission, a design inspiration that caused it to go from a gleam in the eye of the fork guy, to a finished product. Fox, like some of their competitors, has a number of forks that seem almost identical to the untrained eye. The keyword behind the Float series is "light." Fox wanted to design the lightest 36mm stanchioned forks on the planet. And the 36 Float FIT RC2 forks are feathery considering their purpose. The RC2 FIT damper, is the heart of the internals, and provides a ride that is sophisticated on the inside, but plush on the outside. It does a whole lotta thinking for the rider, and does it faster than a computer.

The 36 Fox forks feature a lightweight, stiff, hollow crown. A hollow axle and post-style disc-brake mounts are standard throughout the Fox 36 fork line which keep things lean as well. As with all of the Fox 36 forks, this fork can do triple-duty. It is good for All-Mountain, Downhill, and Freeride applications. The key is smart engineering. It is heavyweight tough at a middle-weight size. The advantage to this is not getting bogged down in any discipline where gravity is working against you.

The 2010 Fox 36 Float FIT RC2 fork has 160mm of travel. Travel can be reduced to 130mm if one inserts a 30mm travel spacer. Adjustments include air spring pressure and rebound, both of which are adjusted externally. Also adjusted on the outside are low and high-speed compression via knobs on the bottom of the right leg. Hydraulic bottom out resistance in damper and travel are internal adjustments. The Fox FIT cartridge is the damper -- a hydraulic position-sensitive damper. As with all of Fox 36 forks, the fork only works with 20mm thru axle hubs and utilizes the Fox 20QR quick-release thru axle system. Its 36mm lowers are finished in white, and feature post-style disc brake mounts. The axle-to-crown measurement is 545mm. According to Fox, the 1-1/8" steerer tips the scales at 2180g (4.80lbs); the 1.5" at 2150g (4.75lbs); and the tapered at 2170g (4.78lbs). All weights include the axle.
