    Details

    Details matter.

At this price point it's typically one-size-awkwardly-fits-all, or else it's a simple helmet lacking adequate airflow and an effective retention system. Fox Racing, however, has an advantage unlike the competition, the Flux is built with attention to these all-important details.

This means fewer molds and resources tied up in multiple, overlapping designs. Due to this, Fox Racing focuses its collective efforts on making the Flux one of the lightest, best-breathing, and safest helmets in this bracket. In fact, it easily passes the stringent CPSC safety standard, complete with 20 large vents, and it comfortably balances a triple-beam under the 400-gram mark.

Those features contribute to the reason that many riders often have more than one Flux on deck. But there's more to it than that. Fox Racing was one of the first to forgo the industry's tradition of remarketing visor-clad, skinny-tire helmets to mountain bikers. Starting fresh, the original Flux successfully melded additional coverage with plenty of ventilation, leaving ultra-aero, minimalist helmets for gran fondos.

A Detox fit system is quick to adjust, and it comfortably wraps the head. The Flux is constructed from expanded polystyrene foam with an in-mold shell, and Fox Racing provides several finishes to complete any kit.

    • A mountain bike helmet for recreational ripping
    • In-mold construction absorbs impacts
    • Extended protection targets the hazards of trail riding
    • Ventilates without compromising protection
    • Visor fends off sun, rain, and errant branches

Doin' the bull dance, feeling the flow

For the price, you won't find a cooler yet functional helmet. This baby is a standard bike helmet but with good enough looks to put it in the next class. Lightweight and well-built too. Bought this helmet for commuting and trail rides, and it's been reliable as both. The visor works well and you get good coverage for your noggin.
I agree that the geometry on the harness isn't the best, and it could be a little more low-profile, but if you could have it all you'd be paying $200.

    Finally, I'm legit

Before I bought this helmet, I was struggling up the singletrack, falling at every turn, and being laughed at by all the real riders blowing by me. My silly road helmet was a disgrace. I hid in shame, only riding at night, with no lights, in the hopes of avoiding the cat calls and looks of disdain from other riders. Then, this helmet came. Suddenly I was flying up the track. I passed casual riders, hard core riders, pros gaped as I forced them to the side and cruised past at breakneck speed. I passed EVERYONE. and I did it in style.

Fox makes good kit. The helmet has a nice range of fit options within the S/M, or L/XL size options. Comes with additional padding pieces for a more precise fit.
The sun visor is a necessity in the dessert.
Good coverage over the important parts of the cranium.

My only complaint might be the chin strap. I'm having a little difficulty getting it exactly where I want it to go around my ears, not rub with a pair of sunglasses and sit tight on the chin. Seems there's 2x as much strap as needed flopping around and hitting my handlebars as i ride. OK, not THAT much extra strap...

I have ridden with the Fox Flux for a solid five years. Luckily I have only gone through two helmets in that time (both Fluxes). The 17 vents offer ample ventilation for riding in the desert or those hot summer days in the mountains. The visor is a little flimsy compared to other helmets but it is easily replaced if broken. I am interested to see how the new dial fit retention system for the 2016 model compares to the Detox system on this one (this is the 2015 model). I would highly recommend this to any mountain biker looking for a reasonably priced, lightweight helmet that can do it all.

Feel free to shoot me any questions about the Flux or any other bike helmets.

    Great do it all helmet!

I use this helmet for commuting as well as mountain biking and I could not be happier with it. It is very breathable and lightweight while still being quite fashionable. It does seem to run a bit large, I have a fairly big head and the S/M fits me perfectly. It is very adjustable, so unless you have a HUGE head, I'd definitely suggest going with the S/M.

    Lightweight and Durable

Love this helmet. Bought this helmet for an early season trip to Moab. It held up really well after some hard falls and kept me head cool in the desert. Riding this summer in Park City it's taken a few more hits and done really well. The sun visor definitely comes in handy.

Will say it seems to run a bit large compared to what the sizing says. I wear a 7 1/4 hat and bought the medium. I have the back of the helmet adjusted as far is it can go and it's still a tad loose.

    Fits like a glove

So, if you're familiar with him, I'm basically MODOK in terms of head to body ratio. My dome is huge. Here's a shot of MODOK for reference: http://bit.ly/1IdKzK4 . On top of having a big noggin, it's also pretty long; like a banana, or an alien from Ridley Scott's classic.

Anyway, finding the right size helmet that stays securely snugged to my big melon is always a challenge. Most helmets, even the XLs, fit too tightly, and they don't adjust well for someone with a bigger, banana shaped head like my own. I'm happy to report that's not the case here with the Fox Racing Flux helmet.

There is plenty of room in this helmet for us cranially-well-endowed individuals, and the back straps make it easy to adjust to ensure it doesn't go flying off when our top-heavy bodies go flying from our bikes. The helmet is comfortable, light, and breathable as well. The wind cuts through nicely and keeps you cool on long climbs, and you don't feel tired from carrying a bunch of different weight on your head.

Overall build quality seems pretty good. This is a mid range helmet in terms of price to me, so I don't expect anything crazy in terms of quality, but the helmet is built well and nothing stands out as an issue on the build.
