Get storm protection, light insulation, and a comfortable fit with FlyLow Gear’s Higgins Jacket. The Higgins blends softshell and hardshell technologies to arrive at technical shell that can handle a day of backcountry steeps just as well as in-bounds charging.

  • Three-layer Intuitive Soft-Hardshell fabric combines a hard-shell-like exterior with a soft-shell interior to create a feel that’s soft, slightly stretchy, and highly water resistant
  • DWR coating and fully taped seams block external moisture from sneaking past the fabric’s defenses
  • Two-way, 15-inch waterproof underarm zips shed excess heat when needed but block moisture from entering when closed
  • Removable powder skirt forms an additional barrier between you and the snow
  • Front closure and chest pocket come with waterproof zippers for added protection against wetness
  • Helmet-compatible hood provides storm protection without sacrificing safety

Bottom Line: What can Higgins do for you?

Bomber Jacket

Impressive jacket. Warmer than I thought it would be for a modified soft shell, hood fits over my Maze helmet with lots of room, big vents in the pits for touring breathability and bullet proof. Toured and skied several times in tight trees and surfing tree lines to catch the last pow pillow and so far no scuffs or tears.

Only downside is my XL is not articulated enough in the armpits so when in a tuck or reaching high, the sleeves leave some skin exposed.

I have the 2009 model which doesn't have a powder skirt, yet the description above says this one does include a removable skirt? Was planning on returning the purchase to Backcountry and getting the updated model with a skirt. Just bad info in the description?

Higgins...Yes Please!

By:

I love this jacket. It's bright and steezy if you are into that, but more importantly it not only looks good but functions amazingly well. This is definitely the most I've ever spent on any piece of clothing, but I feel totally justified while lapping the lifts or skinning up a peak in the backcountry. The jacket breaths well and sheds water like it's it's job (because it is). The range of motion in the arms was well crafted, unlike many other "slim fit" shells that leave you wanting more space. Also, the cuffs fit well over gloves or under gauntlets, with velcro that is high quality, and not like the chincy stuff that Northface and Mountain Hardware use.

Most importantly in my case are the extremely well thought out and spaciously designed skin pockets! Yes! Thank you Flylow...I was just beginning to get extremely annoyed by my new BD Split Skins for icing over...that is until I got my higgins Jackets. Now my skins stay warm, dry, and ice free. Score!

Buy this jacket, shred the pow, stay warm and dry and do it again the next day. Did I mention I like this jacket?

This is an excellent jacket. Very warm and windproof. I really like the bright yellow color. The jacket is very sturdy and should last me a long time.

Best all-around shell for $

Love my Higgins jacket. It's tough and kinda stretchy. I snagged a tree and instead of ripping, it held with only a tiny puncture. Burly and versatile with a real nice hood and massive vents for on the way up.

Big

I have the Higgins jacket, size medium. I'm 5'8", 140 lbs., fits great...with layers from a t-shirt to micropuff under it. Very versatile, use it backcountry, skiing laps, sitting in the yard drinking beer in the rain (the true test). Big hood, can be pulled up or down over a hat without unzipping, will fit over my Giro helmet snugly, can still turn your head. Sleeve length is right for my size. The fabric is great - slight stretch, abraision resistant, tough, quiet. Nice soft lining. Enough well placed pockets. Love it!

Love it

I am really psyched about this jacket. I have previously owned the Flylow Kung Fu and I think this is a superior jacket. The Kung Fu is still a jacket I plan to rock for the spring, but the Higgins is much warmer and much more of a "real jacket." I also own an older Cloudveil Koven that I really liked and wore as my everyday jacket for years, a very similar jacket but the Higgins is a bit warmer, which I like.

Basically the Higgins provides everything I want. Its a great everday jacket. My only complaint is that I have a single thread that frayed out down the arm. Not a snag from catching a tree, but something that just came undone. It's minor enough that I haven't tried to warranty it, but buying from BC.com I always know that I can . . . which is nice.

A final note, for those who have owned the Kung Fu and wonder about size, I think the Higgins fits much more true to size. I always wear a Large and had to go a size up in the Fu, but in the Higgins I wear my usual size Large.

Great fit and very waterproof. only problem is that it isn't the most durable fabric but I expected that since it's not really a hard shell. I still love this jacket.

I put well over 100 days on this jacket last season and this summer in Argentina and (other than needing a good wash) it is in as good a shape as the day I got it. Best everyday/all around jacket i've ever had.
