Flow NXT FRX Snowboard Binding - 2008 BCS

there where some things that i loved about these bindings, and some things that i hated. i am returning these to backcountry by the way. props for the awesome customer service.

PROS:
-easy and fast to put on once adjusted.
-stiff and powerful feeling in the steeps.
-base plate resists snow build up due to slick plastic material.
-nice strong base plate with plenty of bomber adjustment.
CONS:
- mini ratchets would pop open during riding. this is no good!
- cheap plastic parts on the upper binding, ie, all the rachets were chrome plastic. the chrome started to come off the first day.
- $$ expensive $$ quality did not match the price.
- snow pack sometimes prevents boot from fitting into binding.
- never really felt dialed in. the adjustment for tightness was just not precise enough. either too tight, or too loose.

For the money, better materials are in order. i mean aluminum, carbon fiber. not plastic ratchets.

Recently bought these on sale. I was looking for a stiff binding for big mountain assaults (trees, steeps, powder, hard carving). I've been a huge FLOW fan in the past (you either love FLOW or hate them), so I was excited to give these a try but after a few rides I was a bit disappointed for a couple of reasons. First, the binding wasn't as stiff as a model I purchased in the 05/06 season. Even after multiple adjustments, I felt quite a bit of lateral flex. Secondly, after 5-6 rides the adjustment for the highback broke; not from any abuse, misuse, or wreck of any kind. I called FLOW to find a remedy to the matter because the bindings were still under warranty. FLOW responded quickly and sent me a piece to fix the issue, however, the piece that was sent was to another binding of less quality. After further investigation, this has been a common issue with the newer FLOW bindings. These bindings look really cool with a lot of bling, but they feel cheap. Thankfully, Backcountry.com offered to refund my money or exchange the item for another binding (Backcountry.com has incredible customer service by the way). I will continue to be a loyal customer of backcountry.com but not of FLOW.

Aluminum baseplate, adjustable ramps front and back, kickplate screw retaining plate for no lost screws, and a really nice carbon highback. Tons of adjustability, and they are way lighter than my older flow bindings, which have survived through thick and thin over the last 5 years.

I don't like strap bindings as it is lame to have to sit down at the top of every run. Just step in and snap the highback while riding off the lift, and keep on truckin'.

That said, I did give them only 4/5 stars because of the chromed plastic. It is a little less robust than my earlier pair for sure. However I am actually not too worried about the strap buckles as at most you really don't adjust those but maybe once a day... they don't get such heavy use as strap bindings. But the back is plastic too... so we'll see how they hold up.

But a cool binding, light and functional. I don't care what people say, I'm there to ride. And I'm happy to do it on these!

I've used Flow bindings since 2002. Thought this year I would upgrade and get the NXT FRX's. I like the stiffness of the binding and have always appreciated the quick in and out system, which allows me to lift the highback while coming off the lift (those ski buddies never have to wait for me). However it seems that the quality they have used in the parts is very low. I have had the bindings for less than a month and on my 6th ride one of the straps broke and another pulled out of the bolt securing it to the base plate. Flows response has been to carry extra parts, not what I would expect from a $350 binding!

6th ride with these bindings. Have had Flow bindings before and love the conveniance. But dont recommend these ones.First, straps have strectched and popped off the bolts. Then, strap broken in two. It seems I spent most of my day in the repair center at the mountain. Will be swapping these bindings asap.

I just bought a pair of these because they matched my new Never Summer Heritage(842 of 950) perfectly. Well, matched perfectly except for quality and value. I have been wanting to try flow for a while. I have stayed away from them in the past because people dog on them a lot. I now know why. I am still glad I bought them. They do what they do the best - step in. I just wish the quality of materials better matched the price. It is hard to tell by the picture but every one of the silver looking parts are made out of a cheap plastic and not durable metal like you would expect from a $340+ MSRP binding. The use of plastic parts and carbon fiber on the same binding kinda makes Flow look like a joke. To sum it up, If you want to get step in bindings then get flows - they are good for that. However, if you want a durable good value binding you can take any where then keep shoping you won't find that with Flow.
