Completely and totally awesome.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I wore these pants for two weeks straight while attending an outdoor survival school. Everyone in the class commented on how durable they were and how they seemed to never get dirty. And believe me, we were dirty. I found them extremely comfortable and I really made good use of the reinforced seat and knees. I am 6"2' and 185 lbs (ended the trip at 173 lbs) the longer length in the 32' waist fit me perfectly. They are my weekend, outside, everything pants now.

As described. Tough as nails.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

Got these and had to try them out right away. Awesome fit and feel. Much more quiet when walking in them than I had imagined. A lot of people complained that the sizing chart is slightly off and they are correct. My waist is a 38 US and that meant I needed a 54 EU but after reading many blogs that said to "Size UP" on them I found they were correct. I chose to up my size to 56 EU and the pants came in perfect. Had I gone with the 54 EU as the chart specified they would have been too small. Just letting everyone know. Fast shipping, very well made, lightweight and worth every penny. Thanks for a great product. I will be ordering more soon.

Nicely made, but fit issues for me

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Really well-made pants, good looking, and feel durable. I have fairly muscular legs, and they were too tight in the thighs and seat for me, so unfortunately I will return them. They are a bit too heavy to use for backpacking, and too expensive for me to want to rip them up canyoneering, so not sure how often I would wear them anyway.

Exactly what I was looking for..

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Fjallraven make awesome gear and these pants are no exception.. I'm 183cm (6'), 100kg and usually wear a 34" - so I sized up to a 36" due to the reviews on here and they are perfect. Nice athletic fit, but not so tight as to be uncomfortable. The adjustable elastic and the built in lace hook at the hem is a great addition.

All in all, a great all rounder, that can take a fair beating.

Durable.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm a sucker for outdoor gear from the Nordic countries. Fjallraven, norrona, helly hansen, bergens. I love them all. Fjallraven will always lose points for weight and the logic of waxed cotton is questionable in 2014, however these pants are super rugged. You could butt-slide down icy scree and not see a mark. The waist is snug but the rest of the pant isn't that form fitting if you are a slim gent. These are great for fall trekking with a nice wool base. Way too heavy for warm weather. The only downside is they don't make me look like Bear Grylls like I was hoping, but there are probably other factors involved in that case.

Sizing issues

I'm a solid size 36 waist. I ordered the Vidda Pro and found that they are more of a 33-34 waist... I couldn't even button them. The quality looked good, and they are pretty cool, but I'm having to return them.

Great rugged pants

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

I recently ordered these pants and have found them to be everything I expected them to be based on other reviews and product descriptions. The only problem I had was that the first pair I ordered was too small. The conversion between the European and American sizes is off a little. Order the larger size if you border between two sizes. I am 6'-3" 210lbs and the normally wear size 34"x34" jeans. The US 36/EU 52 fit me really well. It is great to find a pair of pants that are actually long enough for me. The shape is loose enough to be comfortable yet slim enough to be practical for trekking and other outdoor activities. The reinforcements are in all the right areas and I'm not worried about kneeling or sitting on the ground, rocks, stumps, etc. The positioning and number of pockets is great. Overall I would recommend these pants to anyone looking for a rugged 3-season outdoor pant.

not good if you have thick legs

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I have fairly muscular legs, While the waist fit they are very snug down the leg and also I believe a little shorter in length they they claim compared to most companies out there. I think they looked well made and really wish I could have tried them out. I ordered the next size up to see if that will do the trick.

backcountry.com sizing is off.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I ordered the EU 54/US 38 (as listed) as my husband is a 38, however was pretty disappointed when they arrived and the tag clearly says EU 54/ US 37.... I held them up to his other pants (these are going to be a gift) and they are not under-labeled/oversized - they're definitely a 37.
So word to the wise, order up! Or maybe check the Fjallraven site to see if their sizing charts are more accurate. These seem like awesome pants and I'm stoked to give them to my husband, but pretty bummed with backcountry.com for not accurately listing their sizing chart - especially when it's right on the product tag. i'll write a review on the product itself once I get the proper size and he gets to try them out.

talked to the support team and within minutes they had the larger pair (EU 56/ US 40) ordered and being sent out to me, and made it possible for me to send the smaller ones back no charge. Wicked service guys, thanks so much for your help. I hope the pants are equally as awesome to wear for my husband!

Your best bet will be to compare your waist and inseam against the sizing chart. They are usually accurate.

The Finest Trekking Pants I Have

These are fantastic pants. I hope Fjallraven can become more known in the US so we'll see more of their products available here. I am 5'7"140 lbs & a 29"waist. Their Size 44 (US 28) is really a 30x32. The inseam is too long for me but it's the shortest size they offer. I wish there were more sizing options particularly in the inseam length but I was able to shorten the inseam with a Euro Hem (aka Tricky Hem) so I could keep the original hems & their adjustable ankle straps. The G-1000 material is like tactical pants fabric, light yet very sturdy. They are relatively quiet pants with a slight swish sound if your legs rub. Water beads up & rolls off them nicely. I haven't gotten them soaked but spot-washed and area of my pants and it dried quickly. I prefer this material over the delicate nylon or thin polyester that typical hiking pants are made of. The fit is fantastic. These pants are a slim fit but give good room for movement. I can lunge, high-step & kneel wearing 2 base layers underneath: 1 light merino wool & 1 thick fleece. Each of my upper legs is 20" around & with the base layers there is still comfort room in the thigh area. The pre-curved knees help with ease of movement. The color 'Tarmac' is a light olive drab with a hint of gray. Very earthy. I tend to favor khaki-colored pants to spot ticks easier but the tarmac color is light enough. The Dark Olive reinforcement areas give a nice, brownish contrast. There are no back pockets but instead there are plenty of clever cargo pockets around the thighs that aren't bulky so you have lots of storage options. The hems have adjustable ankle straps built in with snap enclosures so you can tighten the bottoms around your boots to keep bugs/debris out. Very good idea. Overall a fantastic pair of trekking pants. They are very rugged & durable. I can go trailblazing without fear of my pants tearing on a snag. And as a slim guy these are the first hiking pants that actually fit well. Plus, they have a really cool look!

What seasons is this best used for? Is there any ventilation built into the pants?

Responded on

These pants do not have ventilation. They work best for Spring or Fall activities. In Winter they would work fine due to the weather protection they offer, just make sure you're wearing sufficient base layers. The fabric is not heavyweight but the pants became too hot for me when the temperature went above 80 degrees and I was in the sun .
