This is My Favorite Bag
I love this backpack. Plain and simple. Some general thoughts: I love that it is boxy, the zippers on my bag have been great, I didn’t realize it came with a seat pad (!!!) but it’s great, and the shoulder straps are very comfortable. I love that it has two types of handles and that the holding handles are actually comfortable to hold. I’m from the U.S. and I truly never experienced a bag this shape before until the Kånken explosion. For everything I used it for, it protected my iPad + keyboard case just like it would a laptop. This bag did not hurt my back at all. I originally got this for college to better fit my body; I was a part of the group that came out of high school after COVID-19, so I wanted to invest in a good backpack for college and beyond after virtual education. I used this for two years for daily college classes and for travel. For my college classes, it was great. Very easy to organize, hold things where I wanted them to be held, and it held its shape well when it was placed beside my desk. It was super comfortable to walk around campus, even in some heat. This doesn’t regulate heat on my back well, but I didn’t expect to. Now, for travel. I did some quick weekend trips and long road trips. I loved this bag for that too. I love how structured it is because it doesn’t move around in the car. It’s super comfortable to just.. have on your back when you’re standing around, waiting in a hotel or in an elevator. I love that I was able to pack it full for the travel part but still use it without the bag feeling too big for days on the trip. There were times I forgot I was wearing it and wacked someone (whoops.). So now, I’ve also used it for transporting art supplies for plein air work and, again, it was great for me; my supplies didn’t shift too much (nothing consequential) and it was very comfortable for me to carry. I haven’t bought a new backpack in two years as opposed to having to replace a Target or Walmart backpack every school year. I donated the rest of my backpacks and anything else I had used. I love this bag and honestly I can’t imagine ever replacing it. I’ve recommended this brand and the product line just from how impressed I’ve been with this bag.

Great for art outings and for carry-on
Have y’all noticed how strict airlines are about carry-on these days? I recently flew JetBlue and accidentally bought a ticket that specified “no carry-on”, only a small sized personal item that can fit under the seat. I am both an artist and a paranoid traveler (have to have extra clothes on the plane in case the airline loses your luggage!); there are things that I absolutely do not want to lose: my paintbrushes, drawing journal, Daniel Smith watercolor paints, my iPad…using a packing cube, I was able to fit an extra pair of shoes, two outfits, my basic hygiene kit, my favorite cosmetics, my paint, paintbrushes, notebook, a Kindle and my iPad in this bag; with my wallet, passport and keys in the wee front pouch. It was miraculous! It easily fit under the seat, it’s light weight, so no big deal to run through the airport with. It’s not what you’d want for one bag to travel the world with, but is awesome for traveling with necessities. My only suggestion for improvement - I do wish that the pocket on the exterior was just a little bit bigger, it’s kinda hard to cram in all the little things :)

Great for work, not for traveling
I have waited a few months and a few travel trips to write a review, as they were helpful when I was looking to purchase a laptop backpack. TL;DR - this backpack is great if you're using it carry your laptop + work gear to and from work. If you intend to travel for work, this is not a very comfortable backpack and I would not recommend. The good: This backpack is spacious ad beautiful. I like that the laptop section is separate from the main compartment and it is ample enough to fit notebooks, etc. The main compartment is really big and can fit a lot of items, although Kanken backpacks in general are not great if you love pockets and compartments, so I carry all my items in small pouches (personal items, office items, etc.). The bad: I also intended to use this backpack for travel, and it is not very comfortable for this purpose. The main issue - no luggage strap. So you can't really carry it on top of your luggage securely. That was a BIG drawback for me. The second drawback is that you really have to dig through the main compartment to find anything since it doesn't have many pockets inside. This is a little uncomfortable for me when you're at the airport trying to find things in your bag quickly. The flap is also flimsy, so if you open it too much, things can come falling out of the bag, so it's hard to take stuff out (or in) when you have the backpack strapped on your shoulder. Finally, the front small pocket is sooo tiny, you can't really fit much other than hand sanitizer, a passport and a wallet. And the side pockets don't fit most of reusable water bottles. For this reason, I ended up getting a more travel-friendly backpack and will not continue to use this one regularly. It is a shame though, because it really is a beautiful backpack, just for useful for what I needed it for. If it had had a luggage strap, I would have considered keeping it.

Beautiful, Functional, and Amazing
I waited to write this review until I had used the bag for a couple of months. I am really hard on backpacks. This handles everything I throw at it like a boss. Sturdy, well-made, AND sharp looking. The black-on-black was something that I wavered on for a bit. I wasn't sure if it was worth the extra price. I ended up going with it and I am so glad that I did. It is professional enough to carry to the office and still casual enough to bring hiking. The bag itself is so light that you don't even notice it. Plus, it sits up higher on your back than other backpacks so even when just fling it over one shoulder with as much as I can stuff in there, it is comfortable. As for space, this one has ALL THE SPACE. It is so nice to keep the laptop away from everything else, protected. I usually have a 32-ounce water bottle with my wallet, lunch bag, knitting project, and all sorts of random items. Finding what I need in the bag is much nicer than a standard backpack as well, as this opens fully, allowing access and view to everything without digging. Ultimately, I love this bag so much that I am ordering one for my 6-year old son for school next year because I KNOW that the bag can handle him.

Friggen Qual
My peeps from all other dweeps. This backpack is and will be better than expected. Just check out the story of how the company was created, the man is a legend…I truly believe this is the perfect all around backpack for any type of lifestyle…even after thinking it was a basic high school girl’s backpack and being worried about making the wrong choice…Mr. Nordin himself came down from heaven clicked the buy button for me…and I will continuously thank him for that. NOT TO MENTION THE SLICK BLACK ON BLACK, she’s lit. so like I said….this backpack is frikken quality. Thank you for your time.

Best bag ever!!
I absolutely love my Kånken No. 2 and use it every day. I call it The Tardis because after a trip to the market where I’ve bought a bit much, I can always seem to fit it in somehow. I live on my boat, commute via ferry, ride a pushbike and motorcycle and the bag fits every lifestyle.
