Great whether about town or on a winter Scout camp

I have been wearing this jacket daily for nearly 6 months and so far has stood up to any activity. Work, town, or a recent wet Scout winter camp. The jacket is hard wearing and a great fit. I went with unlined so it can be a true all year jacket, adding layers underneath in the winter. I am 6 foot 2 inches and medium build. I bought this in large to allow plenty of layering options. Fits great and doesn't look baggy when worn with just a t shirt. I recently gave it a good waxing with Fjallraven's Greenland wax (rubbed on and used a hairdryer to melt it). This kept me dry for the most part, although had some limitations after a full day of constant rain - this is to be expected. Much better durability than a gore-tex jacket, and much better for the environment (and potentially my health). I expect this will see me through many more adventures to come.

Classic

This jacket is an absolute classic, light enough to be layered, tough enough to be abused, looks stunning on. Feels such quality. Cannot recommend enough.

Proven and reliable.

Thanks to Youtube i finally understood what the Hype and mission of Fjallraven is. Thanks to Fjallraven i've ditched all my PFAS and PFC clothing and gone full, G-1000 and wax. So when i was looking for a winter shell jacket it boiled down one of two and ultimatley i had to go with this timeless classic. Who can argue with a jacket in production since before I was born or one handed down from grandparents? First id like to say i get compliments on this jacket from other men all the time so that should say something. It's comfortable, breaths great, has a great feel. I love the large pockets and the length is perfect. The hood, fits a little odd unless you are wearing a hat, it kinda droops down over your eyes or at least it does me. I do like the stripped down way it's designed, no mesh, no pit zips or draw strings and velcro on the hoot and such because honestly you don't need all that with G-1000. For cross country skiing and fat tire baking its great, I adjust the level of ventilation by opening the cuffs more or just using the snaps and not the front zipper. I would not wear this in warm or hot weather this is a cool or cold weather jacket depending on use, individual and location. For fall, here in Alaska, say 40-50 its great with maybe a thin layer under neath. If your'e going to really ramp up the activity in colder months also very well suited. My one complaint on this jacket is the over all fit, and by the way this is something ALL Fjallraven clothing seems to have. It's cut for lack of a better term, snug or tight, not loose and baggy. I bought this specifically for the colder months here in Alaska, to do active things in and thus i want to layer, but this jacket is simply too snug to allow many layers and still not feel restricting. I could go up a size but then the sleeves would be too long. I know this because i own another Fjallraven jacket for summer trekking and hiking. Even if i was a tad thinner it feels snug around my rib cage when i tried to put a thick wool shirt under it or even a fleece vest. A light or base weight and/or perhaps a medium weight top is about all you can fit under this jacket and allow for movement and more importantly air. Perhaps they should not have altered the original cut? Im sure some would say why not buy the Greenland winter or down jacket? Because I would be way to hot doing anything active in them unless it very cold, the ability to add and shed layers is and always will be the key to activity outside. Im 5’8 about 190 lb's and i wear a medium, like i said the length is perfect for a person my height but the width could be a tad better and thus if you want more room order up a size and deal with the sleeves somehow.

Favorite field jacket ever

Bought both winter and regular jackets and now considering buying another one in different color. That’s how I adore it.

Very nicely made waterproof jacket

First Fjallraven item of clothing. I wanted a waterproof jacket for both town and outdoors. So far I've only been in one downpour but no issues at all. Remained completely waterproof during a Coronation BBQ! All of the pockets are nicely zipped and really well thought out. I still find new pockets in places where I want them. It loses one star because I think the hood could be better. It's too big without some sort adjuster. It's ok with a big bobble hat on, but without it falls over your eyes or blows off. Folding back the front of the hood sort of fixes this, but it's not ideal. Overall I'm happy. I've just ordered some trousers after 6 months of owning this jacket.

Not water resistant, cold and uncomfortable.

This jacket cannot withstand even a very light rain. Neither wax nor any industrial spray coatings do not help to make this jacket water repellent. Gets wet super quickly - maybe in 5 minutes. Super disappointed. I love the looks of this jacket and I trusted the brand name and relied on Swedish experience. But this jacket is basically just a wind shell. It also lacks any internal lining. So, it becomes uncomfortable even as a simple wind shell. The material is rough and is not pleasant to touch or when wearing with just a T-shirt. Overall, very disappointed. I would not buy this product again.

The updates make this jacket far better

I have an older version of this jacket, but it's an absolute workhorse. Fjallraven means what they say with long-term investments. But I've been in the market for a new one (mostly because I like the new colors, but also for these reasons...). The legacy hood on this jacket was a bit awkward and too small. That's been remedied with this new version. The pockets have largely stayed the same but the subtle enhancements make them appear more modern and effective for their uses. Otherwise, this jacket has remain very similar to its early renditions — a sign of a great design that works. And it does! It's been a great trekking jacket for me year-round in Minnesota.

The Easy Grab

Not sure what jacket to wear, and the weather looks all right (anything besides stormy), regardless of where you are going? Grab the Greenland jacket. This jacket is the epitome of versatile, and genuinely gets better/more comfortable with age. I personally adore the simplicity of the jacket, and immensely respect the designers for honouring Ake’s original vision. For instance, by not succumbing to the pressure of adding a duperfluous drawcord adjustment to the hood. I happen to prefer this conservation, as it makes the hood simpler, and more timeless in its design. I’ve gone up mountains in this jacket, and I’ve gone to the supermarket in this jacket. I did try to make this my one and only jacket. However, ended up purchasing a Keb eco-shell for when it is really rainy outside. The Greenland wax is still great, and environmentally fantastic of course, but it just doesn’t quite match the functionality of eco-shell. So in my opinion it is better to have one soft shell, and one hard shell jacket. Depending on your needs, of course. Should last a lifetime.

…every 40 years

or so, I've got to buy one of these. Having stumbled upon this jacket in an LLBean catalog (yeah, before the internet) purchasing it and owning it since 1983 I decided to buy another which should last me till shuffling off the mortal coil. I've termed my old one a "purse with sleeves", but it has been my default uniform for so long I'm having difficulty wearing the new one - which is FANTASTIC! I actually re-waxed the old one with the bar I ordered along with the new one, which will not need waxing for a while. I don't own another garment as well made as this (and I've got some good clothing). If you think it's expensive, you'll change your mind after a few decades.

Not what i was expecting for the price

Warmth is okay at best and i had to wax the right side of my jacket since it seemingly wasnt done properly and the ykk zipper is terrible i broke a tooth and had to get it re done with a seamstresse. All and not worth the price and ive had this jacket for 3 weeks now, save up for a parka or another line the quality of this jacket isn't worth it sadly
