Description
Leather, carbon, and craftsmanship.
When you slide into a pair of Fi'zi:k R3 Uomo Shoes, you quickly realize that handmade, Italian craftsmanship can't be replicated. From the kangaroo leather uppers to the carbon fiber sole, the Uomo comfortably wraps around your foot with the highest possible attention to detail.
The R3 Uomo features two hook-and-loop straps along with an aluminum, ratcheting buckle. This system allows you to fully tune the fit and volume of the shoes both pre-ride and on-the-fly. The bottom two straps control the snugness of the fit at the metatarsal and instep areas. These straps are best adjusted before you hit the road and left alone thereafter.
The ratcheting strap is what dictates the entry and exit adjustments. The loading lever is made from aluminum that's been mated to a stainless steel base. It has a double-click adjustment capability with a full-release mechanism at the base of the lever. Together, the three strap system eliminates any internal foot slippage that depreciates your efficiency. To evenly distribute pressure across the top of the foot, Fi'zi:k made the strap dimensions wide. The strap design allows you to easily lengthen or shorten the strap in order to precisely dial-in the volume of the shoe. Also, each strap has been crafted from fully-adjustable length sail cloth in order to bolster durability while maintaining a low overall weight. For an extreme control over volume, or simply to efficiently clean the inside of the shoe, Fi'zi:k designed the tongue pad to be fully-removable.
To further control slippage, the R3 Uomo has shaped the heel cup at the aft position of the shoe. This feature keeps the foot in the perfect position on hard up-strokes and while climbing out of the saddle. As a result, you're powering the pedals comfortably and efficiently. This has been further heightened by a variable stiffness sole construction. The base layer is an ultra-stiff carbon fiber plate. Second layer has been positioned closer to the heel. This layer is constructed from a material called Tepex that's a little more malleable than the carbon fiber in order to accommodate and support multiple heel and arch sizes. Encompassing both of these layers is a polyurethane Mobius rail that strikes the ideal balance between elasticity and rigidity. Together, the multiple layers work hand-in-hand with the insole and 3D upper to keep the heel in place and to maximize comfort.
And on the topic of comfort, Fi'zi:k went above and beyond to make the R3 extremely breathable. In fact, you've probably already noticed the high level of mesh ventilation along the upper of the shoe. This feature keeps your feet breathing and comfortable on long summer days in the saddle. And for the insole, Fi'zi:k included its own Cycling Insole. And while its not custom moldable like with the R1, it does incorporate a thoughtful design that assures comfort by absorbing road vibration and supporting your arch system.
The Fi'zi:k R3 Uomo Shoes are available in the color White/Black and Red and in odd and even sizes ranging from 40.0 to 48.0.

I just got a pair of these and it is so tough trying to figure out the sizing because all brands fit differently and the sizing is all over the map. I ordered this in 46.5. I have Giro Factors in 46.5 and Giro SLX in a 46.0, and Shimano R300's in 46.5. The Giros match the Shimano pair in sizing. The Fizik are a size bigger and significantly wider in the forefoot. I am toying with returning them for a 46.0 due to the big size.
It is not an awful fit and would allow for a larger sock, but my foot can move fore and aft making it a bad thing at times.
Very nice.

I usually don't buy cycling shoes on the net because I have wide square feet, and can't fit into most cycling shoes, but this sale was too good to pass up. Ordered on sunday and got them wednesday.
This is just an initial quick review of the fit, and not so much how they perform on the bike. Sorry!
I am currently using Shimano R220E(41.5) wide cycling shoes and Sidi Mega Dominators(42). The Fizik in a size 41 is slightly narrower than the Shimano wide versions, and noticeably narrower than the sidi Mega.
When I took the shoes out of the ridiculously ornate box, I was blown away by how beautifully made they were. Then I was a bit concerened by how narrow they looked. I had read that these shoes have ample toe box room, so I was hoping that they would work well with my boxy wide feet.
Once I actually tried the shoes on, I noticed the very high arch built into the sole. The uncomfortable feeling felt similar to what my custom orthotics feel like. Walking around, it feels painful, but on the bike, it gives stability to my pedaling, and is not noticeable. I felt that the shoes were tighter around the arch area than I am used to, but my feet have just enough room in the toe box. The left shoe felt like it had more arch built in that the right shoe. I just replaced the left insole with a thinner one, and now the fit feels perfect.
Hope to revise this review once I get some real riding in.
Happy holidays.
