We've sold umpteen-hundred rolls of Fizik Microtex Bar Gel, the ultimate solution for killing off road vibration at your handlebars. The combination of Fizik's tough-yet-handsome Microtex bar tape and the cushy gel pads beneath it provides the best shock absorption we've ever found.

What we're selling here is one part of the Microtex Bar Gel combo: It's just the custom-cut gel pads themselves. No handlebar tape. Just the gel pads. You can customize the gel pads with a pair of scissors to fit perfectly on your bars, and you'll then wrap them with the handlebar tape of your choosing. This gives you all the comfort you want, but you're not limited to the colors and the feel of Fizik Microtex tape. If you prefer Cinelli or Deda (or any other brand) bar tape, you can mate it with these pads. The Fizik Bar Gel gives you a total of 4 pads. Two for the tops of your bars, and two for the drops.

    Takes the edge off

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I used this to take the edge off my ultra-stiff titanium race frame with aluminum bars. The metal bars with only a thin Fizik shiny bar tape was harsh to the touch, especially over rough asphalt. One layer of gel under the tape really took the edge off. I was worried the gel might make the wrapped bars look goofy or too squishy for a race bike, but it's actually pretty subtle. There is a slightly noticeable outward taper from the bare bar to where the gel starts, so take some time to plan where you will place it. The gel is a very soft, pliable material, so even though the stock shapes may not quite match up to your bar shape, you will be easily able to shape it to fit, and you can cut any excess if required either before or after application. The gel is sticky but not a permanent adhesive, so you can play around with the position a bit before you commit and re-tape the bars.
