When researching your next saddle, browsing manufacturer website info and reading highly subjective Internet reviews can only get you so far. Beyond actually taking a demo saddle out and trying one, the true selling power of a bike's most personal component is spread by word of mouth; at watercooler conversations, and during group rides. And judging from the meteoric rise in popularity of the Fizik Aliante Braided Carbon Saddle, we'd say that its gospel is being spread by everyone who has ridden one. The Aliante's success is not unwarranted; it is constructed around Fizik's patented Twin Flex shell which helps the saddle achieve the perfect balance between lightness and comfort. Twin Flex is a 35 gram multidirectional carbon fiber shell that surrounds a 15 gram bi-directional carbon and Kevlar woven interior "hammock" resulting in a supremely comfortable saddle design that you sit 'in' as opposed to 'on.'

There are two central changes to this 2nd-generation version of the Aliante carbon: it now comes with braided carbon fiber rails that not only save weight in comparison to Ti rails, but the braiding provides a new level of strength against the clamping force of your seatpost. Secondly, the "ICS" designation of this saddle means it's compatible with Fizik's ICS taillights and saddle bags which may be snapped directly into the rear of the saddle. The Aliante measures 265 x 142mm. It is available in four color options. Choose between solid black, white, black/red, or black/blue.

  • New braided carbon fiber rails are stronger and lighter than Ti rails
  • ICS compatability—Fi’zi:k taillights and saddle bags snap directly to the saddle rails so you don’t have to fuss with rubber clamps or cumbersome straps

My Absolute Favorite Saddle in the World

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I've tried lots of saddles for my go-to road bike. None have been as comfortable as this saddle for everyday riding. Granted, my buns are probably slightly bigger than the average biker (I'm built more like a rugby player), so the curve and the wide of the saddle are just awesome. There are so many saddles out there, and so many styles that it's really hard to choose. I lucked out to find a local shop that let people use loaner saddles for a week. That really helped me find the right fit without wasting tons of money. I went with the braided carbon just because I thought it would give me some extra strength given my rugby buns!
