The Five Ten Spire has been a best-selling climbing shoe for years thanks to its comfortable fit and excellent price. With bomber durability, the Spire survives the learning curve of beginning climber's footwork. These unlined shoes conform to your feet as they stretch about a half size, which is why they make a great choice for long days on the rock where comfort is a priority. Sticky Stealth C4 rubber provides plenty of friction for desperate smearing, and a stiff forefoot edges well.
Bottom Line: There will be plenty of time for tight, uncomfortable shoes later. Start your climbing off right with the Five Ten Spire Climbing Shoes.
These are a great pair of shoes for beginners. My street shoe is about a 11-11.5, I ordered size 10's knowing that they would stretch, definitely a chore to get on the first time and not very comfortable my first two times climbing, but they loosened up extremely quickly, and now I don't even notice them even after wearing and climbing in them for hours. A few notes, the toe is rounded, and fitting it into a little pocket will just not work, also, the heel could be a lot better for heel hooking. But the laces all the way down allow for a very tight but not uncomfortable fit, the rubber will outlast your awful footwork, and the comfort of these shoes will really let you focus more on your climbing, and enjoying the climbing, instead of you constantly thinking about how bad your toes hurt. Definitely a recommend for beginner climbers. I gym climb about 3-4 times a week, and 8 months after purchasing these I'm still loving them

So I climb at a gym and rent out shoes (11.5) I am normal a 11 in street shoes. The shoes I rent out are pointed toes and I want to try these Five-Ten Lace up shoes and Im not sure what size to get cause the toes on these are square????
these were my first pair of climbing shoes. i think that these were a perfect choice for a first pair, because they functioned in every great way that a beginning climber needs -- they are comfortable, with some padding and a nice, supportive soul. in addition, the toe rand is pretty thick, so it lets you smear and really give the shoes a beating (the way beginners do, before they learn some freaking TECHNIQUE!!!) without destroying the shoe.. THE ONLY PROBLEM: they stretch! a full size, if you will! the full grain leather is misleading -- they began to stretch after a couple months of light (once a week) climbing, and after 9 months, they were about a size larger than when i bought them, and that was just about the time that i began wanting a SMALLER climbing shoe, as i became more accustomed to climbing shoes, and wanted a higher-performance shoe... still though, i was very satisfied. ALSO: they wash well! in the washer. cold wash. it will shrink them temporarily (a good 2 hours of sweaty feet will undo that though..)
let me start by saying i've only just started climbing. as i began to learn about the sport and gear, i decided that quality shoes were the first purchase i would make.
i was a bit puzzled by the varied opinions on how uncomfortably tight climbing shoes should be. i'm an 11 in street shoes and decided to buy the 10.5s based on the fact that they would stretch a bit. they were snug and felt good for several minutes, but got painful not long after that. my toes were just barely curled. i didn't think that i'd be able to last like that for very long in the gym. what convinced me to return them and go for the 11s was actually what was written on the 5.10 box... climbing shoes shouldn't be painfully tight.
the 11s are PERFECT! i LOVE them! they have stretched a little, but nothing that tighter lacing can't overcome... they fit like a glove. i even bought two more pairs for the kids and found the sizing to be true to their street size as well (however, take the time to have your foot measured so you know what your real size is to start).
Im up in the air about buying the Coyote or the Spire? I am a beginner climber and have a wide foot. The Spire appears to have a wider toe box than the Coyote(just an assupmtion based on the photos), however the reviews rave about the comfort of the Coyote. Any advice in the matter??
I have a very narrow foot and I use the Spire...although I do have to suck the laces all the way up. I've read that slippers and velcro shoes tend to fit wide feet better than lace-ups.
I am new to climbing and recently purchased a pair of those Mad Rock toe crushers. I returned them shortly after trying them on. OUCH!!!! How do people wear those things? That's like asking Shaq to fit inside a Voltswagon Bug. I searched for a climbing shoe that fit more like my street shoe and I came across these Five Ten Lace-Ups. Wow, what a great climbing shoe for the first timer. I wear a size 12 street shoe and I purchased these babies a size smaller. They do take a little getting used to, but they will stretch. I purchased a second pair of these a half size smaller this time with a much better overall fit and comfort.
Picked up a pair of these recently because the evolv defy's I'd been using at the gym were crushing my toes in the point. These shoes are awesome... Comfy, snug fit for flat-footed climbers like me. Lots of grab, no pinching under the vamp or slippage in the heel. Runs true to size. Well-constructed enough to inspire confidence in even the most timid of midwest-to-california transplants/noobs.
I am fairly new to climbing and recently had to buy my first climbing shoes. I wear a 14 and I live in Japan, so shopping locally was out of the question. I bought 2 different pairs online...the Five Ten Anasazi and the Five Ten Spire...both in size 14. I made it about 5 minutes before I decided the Anasazi was not for me. They tortured my feet and would have never allowed me to get through a climbing session without wanting to give up. The Spire was comfortable, but snug. I've since become quite fond of my new sport and I'm progressing to more difficult climbs. The Spire is my shoe.
I understand the concept behind tight shoes and I think the Anasazi probably fit perfectly. But, I'm not at a climbing level where a tight shoe gives me a climbing advantage. I'll leave the ridiculously tight shoes to the expert boulderers out there. Maybe I'll join you later;)
Four years of use from multi pitch climbs to the plastic crag (indoor) my Spires are holding strong with no re-sole. The Spires make a good all around climbing shoe that smears and edges nicely, but is not overly aggressive in both function and fit. I wear em on easy routes or when I just want to goof around. Size 11 wraps my US size 12 foot comfortably without the "Hammer Toe" effect. I recommend these to any level of climber.
Like you will read in all the reviews below, this is a great shoe to start with. You know your skills are growing when you feel that this shoe just doesn't cut it anymore. Things like, you need more edging support, more smearing grip, or this ain't the shoe to be using when climbing cracks.
Yes they are right when they say that this shoe will stretch out. Don't worry though, the lacing system will compensate for that and make sure you get the most out of that superb Stealth C4 rubber.
I recommend this shoe because it helped me love rock climbing.

I love this shoe, but be wary when buying. I bought a size smaller (US sizes) and already they have stretched to almost a half size to big. Very stretchy shoes (which is expected with an unlined shoe). Luckily, I am still fairly new and won't need technical shoes for a while yet. But other than this shoe is pretty awesome. Fits great, doesn't stain or leave my feet rubbed raw.
My feet are a little wider than normal and I wear a street shoe size of 13. I got the 12.5 and the fit like a glove. Then only negative I can think of is that the laces are quite long and now then shoe lace ends are worn out. Not a biggie. They have great friction and I am really happy with how they have performed.
I have been climbing on these shoes for about a month now, and they are great! This is my first pair of rock climbing shoes that I have purchased, and they are holding up wonderfully. I would definitely recommend these shoes to any other beginners out there looking for a basic climbing shoe.
Confortable like a walking shoe and precise even for harder climbs. Sole has a perfect balance so you can feel the rock under your feet and also be suported by it with few effort. It's an all-in-one shoe and is suitable for beginners, intermediate and also for long and harder climbs.
Ok first let me please tell you that if you are a first time buyer from this site like I was, you have nothing to worry about! I live one state over from where these ship out from. I ordered it snail mail and they came the next day. very fast shipping and order prossesing! I also ordered a crash pad that shows it took 2 days to deliver, but I never got it. Not Backcountry's fault UPS's fault. I called Backcountry up and the first thing they tell me is, "We'll get another one shipped right out!!! WOW amazing costumer service!! A+++++!!!
OK OK the shoes... I had a chance to try these on from a local Retailer. From what I have read, the all leather shoe will stretch a bit, up to one size. I wear a 11.5-12 in US mens. I ordered these in 10.5 and they fit tight, but I can tell that after a few uses they are going to be perfect. Rubber on them is real sticky and even being a beginner I feel like a pro. Shoe is well built and seems like it will wear well. I was really liking the La Sportiva Mytos, but am real glad that I got these. I think my next shoe will be 5.10's I love my blue suede shoes!! Thank you Backcountry.com
Really love these shoes. My first pair began to wear out after over two years of frequent climbing so just bought another pair to use while I get the first pair re-soled. I have a fat foot and these shoes are comfortable enough to wear on multi-pitch but tight enough to have a great edge. Highly recommended for comfort, durabiliy, and function!
I recently bought these as a 3rd pair of climbing shoes and they are everything I was hoping for. My other two pairs cover me for long alpine routes and serious rock climbing. These have me covered for comfort on easy days at the crag which is exactly what I was looking for. Good price... great comfort... and very pretty :)
These are great shoes for beginners, or anyone who wants a comfortable shoe. I usually wear a 6.5 in women's and I got a 5 (men's) in these. They were tight to begin with, but stretched out for a very comfy fit after about a week of use.
These are a great pair of shoes for beginners. My street shoe is about a 11-11.5, I ordered size 10's knowing that they would stretch, definitely a more...
