Description

The women's performance shoe.

The Five Ten Blackwing Women's Climbing Shoe combines an aggressive profile with a durable design that's well-suited for both climbing and bouldering. Thanks to a formed heel cup, the Blackwing has an extra snug fit, and its rugged Mystique rubber offers maximum friction on overhanging problems and routes. Don't sweat it if your project takes a few tries; a microfiber lining delivers plenty of moisture management as well as a comfortable, fleecy feel when you're hanging off a jug-haul 40 feet up.

Great aggressive climbing shoe!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I have been climbing in the Anasazi LVs for years, but decided to give the Blackwings a try since I've never owned a more aggressive shoe. I love them! Yes, they are a bit uncomfortable until you build callouses on your toes and stretch them out a little, but they are really amazing for bouldering and sticking to those micro edges. Smearing capabilities are so-so, but that's to be expected with the shape of the shoe. The heel is a little big, but nothing horrible. Overall: great shoe for bouldering and techy climbing, but they'll be uncomfortable at first.

WOW

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I ordered these shoes to use as a bouldering shoe. However i am a novice and still learning the sport. These are an aggressive shoe to work up to using! They look and felt like they would be exceptional for someone with a more advanced background. They will be the advanced shoe i buy when i am ready for them!

Does anyone know how these compare to the five ten Projects? I love my projects, but they are in rough shape and I need new shoes.

Amazing Shoes!

I love these shoes they are Amazing! I am on my third pair! They are great for bouldering and climbing overhanging rock!
I wear a size 6.5 in street shoe size and I got a size 7 in the Blackwings and they are a perfect fit once I wear them a day! These don't stretch really so you don't want them too snug but will mold to your feet great!
I notice when I first wear them there is a little bit of a gap in the heel from the bottom of the shoe and the bottom of my foot but once you wear them a day that goes away!
The rubber on these shoes are amazing but you will definitely wear through them faster than other types of shoe rubber. It is worth is though when you climb really greasy rock you stick to the rock more with the 5.10 rubber than any other rubber!

Does anyone know how well these shoes keep their aggressive shape? I'm worried that they might flatten out over time.

They'll flatten out a little overtime, a lot if you abuse the hell out of them. just downsize and treat them well and you should be ok.

Satisfied, heel has some room though.

I ordered these in both a 7.5 and 8 based on other reviews.

I wear a 7.5 street size. My La Sportiva Muiras are a size 37. I have a wider foot at the toes, nothing ridiculous. (For reference - Scarpa rockettes in sizes 37.5 did not fit my higher volume foot.

I mostly boulder, often indoors at anywhere from a V2-V7 in plastic land. I prefer a more down turned shoe for overhang problems.

These shoes run small, I tried for a while to cram my feet into the 7.5 (my slightly larger foot was not having it) I could get them in, but walking was close to impossible and the material being synthetic, likely wont stretch enough. The 8, I was hesitant to keep, since on one foot, my heel felt slippy.

I brought 'em to the gym and realized that the 8 had to be the right size since I rip them off my feet after a problem. They are relatively comfortable - one hot spot at my big toe, and a pocket in the heel of the other foot. The tongue padding is really nice. The aggressive toe has been helpful.

I am really hoping that these hold their shape and stay together.

Totally agree w/ sizing here. I wear street 7.5-8, & wear muira's 36.5 , had to do an 8 in these as well.

Great

Great shoe, very sensitive. Allows for precise foot work. Good for steep climbing.

But what's with 5.10 and their heels? The heel is better than previous 5.10 Anasazi shoes. But there is still a small air pocket at the tip of the heel.

Overall, the shoe is great.

Responded on

you got to get a smaller shoe size, i know its going to kill your feet but it works

Yep, that's my only gripe with 5.10 shoes as well. For whatever reason, the heel cup is always weird.
