Here's what others have to say...

True to EUR size

Great shoe, very comfortable fit. The stiffness, mesh upper and sticky sole makes for a cooler wearing bike shoe than their bike shoe does. And it's a great kayaking shoe for scrambling on wet rocks. And the 44.5 cm sizing fits as perfectly as my 44.5 cm Tevas, and my 44.5 cm Patagonia shoes and.......

Not bad, but not for me

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large

I love 5.10 and needed to upgrade my old Sportiva Spotter shoes.
The Aescents seemed like they'd fit the bill pretty well.

Unfortunately even with sizing down, I was unable to get a good fit from the shoe. It seemed a little too high volume for me, and could feel some play side-to-side inside the shoe even with the laces tightened up.
The rubber is great, and I could see these shoes being great if they fit me properly.

I normally wear a size 9 street shoe, but my foot is more of an 8.5. I had to go down to a size 8.

Forget about US sizing and find your EUR size in centimeters. I wear a "size 11" which changes with every shoe company. But what I really wear is a size 44.5 EUR which doesn't change with every shoe company. You can't alter the length of a centimeter.

abu100388682, I think you misunderstand my problem with the shoes :)

It seems like a few other people also had to size down, even compared to other 5.10 shoes.
But the problem was that the toebox was just too big for my foot, and didn't hold my foot in place like I wanted it to.
Even after I found the proper length shoe, it still didn't have the fit I need.

You are correct though, you can't change the length of a centimeter. In a perfect world we'd use the metric system for everything...

I've been wandering around in these shoes for the past couple months and have been very pleased with them. The sole very stiff and gives very good protection on sharp rocks during the approach. The rubber is obviously very sticky, and I like having two pull tabs on the back of each shoe to put them on and hang them from a harness or pack. They do run large so you might want to consider downsizing a half size or so.

FYI, I wear a size 11 in 5.10 Guide Tennies and Impacts (and in pretty much every other shoe I've had since my feet stopped growing), yet I wear 10.5 Aescent.

To answer rootless's question, these are stiffer than the Tennies, with a wider, more rigid "footprint."

Sweet shoes

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I picked these up to use as light hikers on rocky trails, and after a few hikes I like them a lot. They fit true to size, and they are lightweight. The rubber is super sticky. The first thing you notice is how stiff the soles are-great for rocky terrain and scrambling but I personally wouldn't buy these just as a casual shoe.

How stiff are the soles when compared to...

How stiff are the soles when compared to the Guide Tennie?

These are much stiffer than most other 5.10 shoes I've worn.
