Launch a backcountry kicker, and land switch with the fatty Fischer Atua Alpine Ski. Sure to be the local's favorite, the Atua Ski (123/96/119mm) has everything the big-mountain freerider wants. The fat and tall tips and tails give you the float you want up front through the pow and deliver a massive rooster tail off the back end. The generous sidecut and lateral stiffness mean you can still carve this ski inbounds when the avalanche danger is too high to venture past the resort's gates. Fischer built the Atua Ski with vertically laminated wood and AirCarbon in a sandwich construction. This means the ski has a low swing weight, and it's still laterally stiff. It's easier to pop quick turns down the steeps or bounce between the powder stashes in the trees, and the Atuas still hold an edge when you hit a patch of ice.

Bottom Line: Big mountain skis for big hits and deep pow.

ski does it all

Freeskier says ski of the year, I say ski of the decade. Wow, groomers, crud, chop, windblown, and of course deep pow. I saw it all on last trip and this ski crushed it. It’s great with the jump turns and medium to short radius in the trees. Very lightweight, but super stable when straight lining big faces.

Atuas Rock!!

This ski would be on more peoples’ feet if it was made by most any other manufacturer. Since Fischer does have the cool core image of other brands it’s quickly overlooked. Better than the Vicious, more lively than the Scratch BC, easily better edge hold than the Gun Lab, this skis as one of the best in its class without really trying.
