Waterproof protection for the winter run.
Steelhead fishermen are know for their willingness to spend long days in the drizzling rain, making thousands of casts for just the chance to tighten their lines on maybe one or two steelhead over the course of a season. Named after one of Washington's most renowned steelhead waters, the Filson Men's Skagit Jacket is built for those long, rainy days spent chasing wild steel. The Skagit isn't your usual Filson jacket, it's made with a more modern approach to technical outerwear with a waterproof, breathable membrane, a three-layer shell construction, and fully sealed seams to keep you dry and comfortable while you're out on the river. Filson tailored the jacket to suit the needs of all anglers with internal neoprene cuffs to help seal out icy river waters when you go to release your catch, and a longer hem that provides additional coverage from rain for when you reach down bring your fish to hand. The flannel-lined handwarmer pockets give your fingers a place to warm up before you try to switch out flies with cold hands, and the two large bellow pockets are an ideal spot to stash a fly box or two when you're packing light.

This is a NICE jacket and I purchased it for all around outdoor use. As you can see, the look of this jacket gives a serious nod to tradition while it takes a more modern approach to technical shells. The fit of the jacket is great, as it is appropriate to size while there is still room to layer up with your base and mid layers. The feel of the jacket inside and out is plush. The outer laminate fabric is soft, supple and very quiet, but at the same time feels extremely durable. The inner laminate fabric is also soft with that tricot, so it feels great when only wearing a t-shirt. All of these pockets will be appreciated for their placement and function. The flannel lined chest pockets are awesome! Waterproofing is more than acceptable, as I wore this in the shower for 20 minutes and came out BONE DRY. I will add that the outer fabric did seem to "wet out" but this may be do to the fact that the fabric is deadly quiet and softer to the touch than say an Arc'Teryx jacket. This jacket breathes pretty good too, and did not feel muggy when working up a sweat when exerting myself. I do wish that it had pit zips though, but it was not a deal breaker for me since I prefer to not hike or backpack during a downpour anyways. Overall, I am very pleased with how it performed on my Spring backpacking trip.
