Great Light? Yeah I'd Say So!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I am a high adventure guide and part of that includes caving/spelunking everyday during the summer and occasionally during the year and lots of outdoor nights where I need light. So you can imagine that a headlamp is one of my most important pieces of equipment. After much research I decided on the Fenix HL30 and I am pretty well pleased with it. I usually only use the low mode in the cave and walking around because I am cautious about battery life and it does very well in the cave. The turbo is great for lighting up entire rooms and quenching almost all darkness but remember not for long because of the auto dimmer for heat control. I love the red, use it to read and not disturb the other guys a lot. My only complaint would be that they are all decently wide option settings which work great to illuminate a area but there is no setting that is just a spot light so when I am trying to point things out in the cave, crystals or what not, I use my finger to create a shadow pointer, but other than that this would be a 5 star. Don't forget the shorter battery life on the higher modes!

Awesome Light!!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was a little skeptical at buying a Fenix headlamp since most of my other friends reccomended a petzl or a princeton tec headlamp. I went and bought it and have loved it. I love the mutliple brightness levels, the turbo is so bright I feel like I am wearing a spotlight. The red light is perfect for avoiding pesky bugs. It is very easy to detach from the strap and and the pivot on the headlamp is nice for adjusting different angles.
