Description

Simple, light, powerful.

With seven years under its belt, the Exposure Joystick Mk7 has continually evolved as Exposure has grown to be a leader in the performance lighting market. Now sporting a boost in output to 400 lumens and Exposure's new Optimized Mode Selector, the lightweight Joystick Mk7 with Helmet Mount continues to light the way.

The Joystick's low weight and one-piece design was a significant departure from the separate battery and light units that once dominated the market. If you've ever snagged a power cord and had your singletrack tunnel go dark, then you know the appeal of self-contained lights. And, weighing in at under 90 grams, the Mk7 won't cause the fatiguing bobble-head effect of hefty lights.

The Joystick's 2900mAh Lithium ion battery is enclosed within the Joystick's aerospace grade, exquisitely CNC'd aluminum body. The extensive machining, however, isn't just to look cool. It's actually designed to help heat transfer -- to physically cool the light. Packing one Cree XPG R5 LED, the Joystick Mk7 can generate excessive heat. One way it's managed is through the weather-tight body, the other way it's managed is with Exposure's patented Intelligent Thermal Management (ITM).

If the internal temperature gets too high, ITM kicks in and automatically drops the power level down to the next lowest setting. It will remain at the lower setting until the temperature inside the housing returns within normal operating range. This, and the weatherproof housing, ensures the light's battery and LED bulbs are safe from moisture, muck, and heat for a long life span.

A defining feature found here on the Joystick Mk7 is Exposure's Smart Port Technology Plus. Essentially, it's a cylindrical plug on the back of the lamp unit that allows you to insert the smart charger. But, it also enables you to plug in accessories like a red LED taillight and back-up batteries, or to even charge other USB-powered devices. It will automatically recognize each accessory and configure the system to take a charge or power accessory lights.

A new feature found on the Joystick Mk7 is Exposure's Optimum Mode Selector. OMS offers eight preprogramed settings to provide the optimum lighting for ride conditions. After all, the requirements needed for a high-paced trail ride are quite different than 24hr race, or a week of commuting -- and OMS lets you tune the light for any of those conditions.

For example; in the first OMS setting, the Mk7 will push 400 Lumens for 2hrs in high, medium gets you 6hrs at 190 Lumens, and low nets 110 Lumens at 12 hours -- great for standard trail riding or commuting. Now, let's say you're going on a moonlit epic, something along the lines of six hours pedaling in the dark. You're not going to need full power to light the road or trail because you're not alerting cars or traveling at race-pace.

For that situation you can select the fifth OMS mode where the Mk7 will kick out a sufficient 350 Lumens for 3hrs in high and 110 Lumens for 10hrs in medium. That'd be plenty of light to safely cut through the darkness and make it back to camp.

The OMS modes are selected using the power button located on the back of the unit. The new info display resides under a clear silicone covering with 3 color mode LED's that double as the OMS display indicator and a fuel gauge. The Joystick MK7 attaches to your helmet via a small, but sturdy threaded mount.

All that is required is a vent hole in the helmet, as the mount has built-in washers on the top and bottom. You simply screw it together, clamping the vent hole between the two pieces. The top of the mount has a C-shaped clip that snaps securely around the body of the Joystick Mk7. It contains a ball joint that gives you a degree of positional freedom to aim the light.

The Exposure Exposure Joystick Mk7 has a two year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship
