Works, but not great.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've owned this Exped bag for over a year and taken it pretty much everywhere; on a trail run up Mt Whitney, climbing at Tahquitz, bike trips up PCH, and to the beach when I go surfing. All I can say is that there is nothing special about this bag, you might as well save some coin and get a cheaper backpack. Yes, it claims to be waterproof, which is true if there are no holes in the fabric. But if you are having any real fun in the mountains it's going to take you just a few minutes to start getting pin holes in the material. The waterproofing also has another draw back, in that when you sweat this thing just repels the sweat back onto your skin. Usually this results in a steady stream of sweat running down your back; way uncomfortable. Also, this thing is crazy uncomfortable to wear without a shirt, which is my default for moving fast. The roll top is hard to close if you've packed a bunch of stuff in there. But if the pack is under-loaded, then you have to cinch down the drawstring to keep things tight, and you wind up with a bunch of extra drawstring just hanging out, ready to get caught on branches and rocks. If you're a runner or climber, keep looking, this bag isn't what you want.

Simple and effective

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This bag is great because it is very light and waterproof, plus it has features like a key ring, straps for attaching items, and a quick but effective way to access the bag via the roll top.

I'm generally happy with Exped products and this bag is definitely very good.

Ideal lightweight daypack!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

I bought this for my wife and she was thrilled with it! The shoulder straps breath easy, and it's incredibly tough for being so light. Simple construction, no crazy unnecessary frills. Great pack!

The cloudburst packs are designed to be lightweight and waterproof as well as very compact. They can double as stuff sacks for clothing or sleeping bags and quickly convert to a summit pack for day trips beyond camp.
