When you spend much of your time playing around or in the water, there’s no reason for your pants to stay wet all day. The Ex Officio Men’s Nio Amphi Pant repels water and dry quickly after being submerged. A gusseted crotch allows for natural freedom of movement when you find yourself attacking techy rapids, reeling in the granddaddy of all bass, or summiting a new peak. The Nio Amphi’s tricot lining ensures your legs stay comfortable while the stain and wrinkle resistant Nycott outer layer gives you a free pass into civilization when you return from the arms of the wilderness.
Love these pants. I specifically wanted super light pants that could be worn in warmer weather and get completely soaked yet neither be hot nor remain wet for a long time. These suit that perfectly. I like the water repellency, slightly felted waistband, built-in belt, and the pocket design. I am surprised how much I use the quick drop pocket on the right leg. I can't remember what it's advertised purpose is but I use it when around town, that's where I drop my cell phone when I don't have to worry about it falling it out nearly as much. These pants are much lighter than similar, other brand technical pants, you can pack them soo small. Despite being so thin, I do expect them to hold up pretty well. And regarding warmth, I'm not too concerned. If I know it's cold, I'll pack a different pair of pants or wear the longer 3/4 length merino long underwear bottoms.
I ordered the light Khaki and they look like a greenish mustard color - not really what I'd call a 'light khaki' nor not what it looks like in the picture. Not quite what I was expecting, but the fit is ok and they certainly are lightweight.

The fabric in the pants is surprisingly light - more so than most of my other outdoor pants. They shed water and dry out like no other, though. These are my go-to pants if I want a pant, but may get wet (caoneing, etc.).
The lightweight fabric makes me concerned that they may wear out more quickly... they've lasted a full summer of use, though, so they're great so far!
I have the last-gen model with only one cargo pocket on the left side. The smalls fit me perfectly, and are comfortable to wear with a pack. The built-in underwear is a pretty-open mesh that reduces the need for additional underwear, and keeps everything nice and cool. They dry quickly but aren't water repellent (which I didn't want). Best of all, you can still get them without the stupid "convertible" option. If I want shorts, I can just roll them up, yeah? No need for an extra zipper. I can imagine that some people will not like the belt, but you can take it off.
Would you mind providing your height/weight and the size of the pants you purchased? From your pic it seems like they fit a rather slim build, but it's hard to tell.
This is my second pair of Nio Amphi trousers. They fit well, although they accommodate slightly larger waist sizes than the sizing chart indicates. In my case, the 34 - 38 Large works for me with a 39 inch waist.I normally wear The North Face Paramount pants for more rugged and nasty outings. But the Nio Amphis use a softer material with a better cut (at least for me) and have superior details in pockets, vents, zipper, gussets, etc.So, when I want outdoor wear, but I'm not planning to tear up my trousers, I step into these. They have served me well, and I'm having trouble wearing them out, given the durable material used. They ignore water, and I only need to carry a light DWR top layer to be relatively resistant to a short-term shower or drizzle. They also breath extremely well, making it possible for me to remain comfortable in long pants rather than shorts in places where brambles and poison ivy make shorts a liability.
Also, they include *ALL* the pockets you might expect: both front, both back and both cargo pockets. I'm personally aggravated by trousers that skimp on a pocket to save a buck (or whatever the motive might be). Some pants, especially from OR and Marmot, have been great except that they left off one or two pockets which greatly diminishes their value to me, and I won't be buying them again.
I have loved all my ExOfficio pants and these are no exception. They did change up the pockets a bit and I'm not sure it is for the better but the new configuration still works great.
These pants are exactly what I was looking for. Roomy in the butt and thighs, which accommodates all the squatting and deadlifting I do. Slimmer dudes may not appreciate this if you're looking for a more trim cut. The extra room is more comfortable for the slightly more adventurous hike, but of course doesn't have quite the range of motion as a stretchy climbing pant. I agree with another poster that the convertible pant is unnecessary, for my uses anyway. Because the fabric is so lightweight, rolling them up to the knee doesn't result in a bulky cuff. Everything else the pant claims to be is true: dries extremely fast, resists wrinkles, and they even resisted a stain from a lamb gyro that overflowed into my lap. They seem very well constructed, including the belt which opens/closes easily and stays put. Also greatly appreciated is the shorter length option, and I wish more manufacturers followed suit. I'm 5'6" and 173 lb. with a 32 inch waist and the Medium Short fits perfectly. As a comparison, I tried on the Mountain Hardware Canyon Pant which also seemed very well made and was roomy enough, but the inseam was way too long.
I wore my amphi pants throughout the entire 60 hours of the Chicago to Macinac race. I was comfortable and protected through high winds, intense sun and no wind, under foul weather gear during stormes, and while trying to sleep during off-watch. I got soaked once during an unexpected cloudburst, but they dried almost instantly after the storm. They didnt get torn even with getting thrown around the boat as I did. I didn't get any scrapes or cuts on my legs. The quick release belt buckle, button, and zipper performed flawlessly during emergency maneuvers which are necessary during long races. After crossing the finish line I still looked nautically stylish while drinking champagne. I'm really happy I bought these pants!
