Wear the ExOfficio Men's Insect Shield Vented Hiker Socks on a trip into the backcountry. These hiking socks wick moisture to prevent blisters while hiking and ward off bugs when you wear them around camp. ExOfficio's insect shield safely keeps bugs at bay for about 70 washes. The Vented Hiker Socks have a padded footbed for comfort and a thin, vented top to keep your feet cool.

Bottom Line: Buzz off, biting bugs.

Hi Robert,

The Inscect Shield socks from ExOfficio are very safe. The FDA has to approve and give ratings to any chemicals for personal use. According to this scale the ExOfficio socks require no warning labels. The permetherin (the active ingredient) is added at temps of over 250 degrees and can only be removed at those temps, so dry cleaning is your Insect Shield socks is out. According to their own test data, there is no "leaching" out with use.
I hope you found this useful. If you want more detailed information you can go to: www.insectshield.com or www.exofficio.com

Write your question here...Why are these considered Men's socks? I love them and I'm female. Are there women's insect shield hiker socks? Where do I find those? thanks.

If a sock is stated as a woman's it is usually because they give more room in the calf area of the sock. Since a woman's calf muscle is usually more pronounced then a man's. It's just like ski boots for women are usually shorter and have more room in the upper. But since socks stretch, I would say its more of a sales gimmick really for an excuse of colors.
