Insect Shield Convertible Pant - Men's

Mother Nature made some beautiful sunsets and some wonderful fishing, but in the process she made mosquitoes the size of Volkswagens. The Insect Shield Insect Apparel line from Ex Officio presents an elegant solution to the problem of the little bloodsuckers by offering clothing with an insect-repellent finish. The Men's Convertible Pant is, at heart, a pair of unassuming nylon technical pants, with partially gusseted legs and the ability to transform from pants to shorts at will. In addition to being bug repellent, the Convertible pant is UV resistant and quick drying, making it perfect for any outdoor activity you can think of in bug country.

Bottom Line: Hikers will love them, bugs will hate them.

The pants were a little stiff at first, washing helped but wearing helped more.

Bugs were not a problem.

Buzz Off

The pants are light weight, comfortable when fishing, and definitely keep the skeeters at bay. However, for hiking/backpacking I found them very uncomfortable because the zippers for the gusseted legs (which are on the inside of the pant) would rub together and twist the pant legs tightly around my legs and boots. For just fishing I say get em....but a no for hiking/backpacking. I returned.

What inseam lengths do you have in stock for Cigar color ?

I have a need for short (29/30") Because these pants have lower leg zippers it makes no sense to try and alter them - - too expensive.

Quality Questionable

Recently climbed Aconcagua and settled for these pants as a versatile choice to help cope with the extreme changes in climate along the way. The thigh zippers worked well but one of the ankle zippers was separated mid way which meant I had to take off my boot every time I changed from pants to shorts and back. My bad for not noticing it before I left but it still was a pain.

Yes. Depending on where you are going, I wouldn't depend on the Buzz Off insect shield to protect you fully. Does it work? Pretty much, yes, but natural repellents (e.g. permethrin, the chemical in Buzz Off) may be less effective than synthetics, so having an additional or backup layer of protection is important. Then again, I am paranoid. I would take some repellent containing Saltidin (less toxic than DEET). Of course, you could always take DEET. Yes, it's nasty stuff (safe for nylon, not for plastics), but so are most tropical diseases spread by mosquitoes, sand flies, ticks, and other small things that think you are dinner.

Insect Shield

Comfortable pants. The insect shield seems to work well. The shorts are a little too short for my liking when the legs are zipped off. A bit pricey overall.
