    Seams are scratchy

Ordered these in 2 colors for my boyfriend. He has this same brand already. I guess these are made differently than his previous pair with more seams. The stitching down the front was so itchy they left a rash on him for days. We tried washing hoping they would soften up but they did not. Kind of disappointed.

The best underwear I've ever worn.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I wear the regular Ex-Officio boxer briefs and they are comfortable, but their sport mesh boxer briefs are even more stretchy, breathable and comfortable without being too tight. They are way superior to cotton which I stopped wearing a long time ago when I switched to synthetic. Easy to hand wash and will air dry in a few hours. I wash them on the regular cycle in cold water, but DO NOT use dryer sheets. These normally retail for about $30 a pair, but when Backcountry runs them on sale you can get them for about $22 a pair. They are well worth the added cost and I will be buying several more pairs to wear.

I rocked a pair of these for an Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike and soon found out that these were the piece that was going to keep me on pace. They kept inner thighs from chaffing, kept the scent of the trail to a minimal, and didnt pick or have holes worn through the fabric after 2,200 miles. 5 years since that long distance trip, these boxers are still going strong, with solid elastic, no holes, and quality feel of the fabric.

I had a hard time wrapping my head around why I would possibly spend this much money on a pair of boxers... but alas I gave in! 6 pairs later, I am addicted. For athletic boxer briefs, I have not found a better option when it comes to fit, comfort, and support. These are easy to clean and quick to dry when backpacking, so taking 2 pairs regardless of how long the trips is very doable. I must say that the durability isn't the best (mainly from abrasion on the inner thighs), but that is likely why the fit and comfort are so good considering the support they provide.

I purchased multiple pairs of these after reading and hearing some incredible reviews. I was willing to invest for the price because I was told that they would last me for years and survive just about anything that I put them through.
Some pairs were used over the course of a month-long backpacking trip while the other pairs I didn't bring with me have only been used for the last month or so. They were extremely comfortable and very useful out in the field.
Now that I'm back to the front country, I've noticed a pretty significant manufacturing problem. There seems to be a lot of fuzz accumulating near the crotch area, to the point where the fuzz on one leg will catch on the other, causing them to bunch up while wearing, sometimes even tearing fabric out of the briefs. It was a nuisance at first but it is continuing to accumulate and worsen. I expected that paying nearly $30 per pair meant avoiding things like that.
I did call the Exofficio offices, and the rep I spoke to said he's only just started hearing about this problem, which leads me to believe that maybe just the last few months have been bad batches. I would really discourage buying these right now because it definitely seems like the manufacturing quality has dropped recently.
Luckily they do have a lifetime satisfaction guarantee, and Exofficio is really good about exchanging malfunctioning pairs. So if you want to go ahead and get these, you can probably replace them if you run into the same problem that I had.
The picture shows some of the accumulation. The fuzz is not soft like the rest of the material. Also, notice the lines that show where some of the fabric has been ripped.

Edit: I will add that Exofficio's customer service was absolutely superb. If you do ever have a problem, give them a call and your issue will be taken care of very very well. I switched from these sportmesh briefs to the Give n' Go boxers which came in the mail this morning. I will post a review on those when I have a chance, but I just wanted to mention how refreshing their customer service was. Good on you Exofficio.

    Great 'drawers

    Ditch the cotton!

These are lightweight and super comfortable. You won't even notice you have them on. Easily washed by hand (or machine). They come in cool colors and pack down into a tiny ball if you are on the road or trail.

One silly thing: they come with a huge polyester tag sewn into the waistband that had the size and laundering instructions on it. This was annoying and uncomfortable so I ended up using a small pair of sharp scissors to remove the extra tag. This tag is redundant because the size is on inside the rear waistband ExOfficio label and the laundering instructions are printed on the inside under that label. ExOfficio should ditch the annoying extra tag and drop the MSRP.

    Pricey, but worth it

These boxer-briefs are for any guy out there that has issues with ventilation and perspiration below decks.

The most important aspect of these skivvies is that the material is very comfortable against the skin. It almost feels like there is nothing there.

They breathe very well, even on hot days. Perspiration is wicked away, and this helps limit chafing.

Aesthetics are a lesser concern, but I will say that I own these in several colors, and the schemes are stylish, yet masculine. Your love interest will not take you for a fashion victim if they see you in these.

These are pretty easy to care for. Hand wash them, or put them on a delicate/knit cycle at 30C and you should be good.

The only thing I'm not thrilled about is the giant embroidered tag on the back of these. It doesn't add anything in terms of comfort, it seems like a sweat sponge, and it makes it difficult to fold the boxers in half (go thirds instead). I bet they could drop the price $2 if they got rid of it.

These are my everyday, do it all underwear. I've tried the Icebreakers, and while they are admittedly more stylish, they just aren't durable or as performance oriented. These fit great, hardly noticeable while you wear them, and they never smell. I just rotate through a couple pairs and they see me through just fine. I can't say I plan on using anything else in the future.
