The Ex Officio Air Strip Lite Shirt keeps you cool and protects you from the sun.

Sometimes a shirt is more than just a shirt. Ex Officio used its lightweight Dryflylite fabric in the Men's Long-Sleeve Air Strip Shirt for excellent moisture wicking properties and UPF 30+ sun protection. The Air Strip Shirt's adjustable three-position collar shades your neck while you paddle across a lake at noon or hike an exposed trail. On unbearably hot days, you'll be glad Ex Officio gave the Air Strip Lite Shirt mesh back and side vents. If you accidentally tip the canoe, hang this travel shirt over a branch once you reach the shore—its nylon-polyester fabric dries quickly.

Super comfortable

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 7"
    Weight: 150 lbs
    Size Purchased: small

I am not a big sunscreen fan so i typically go for hiking shirts like these when I am out on the water. I have broad shoulders and usually wear a medium but the small fits great and the shirt was roomy enough for comfortable all day paddling. The vents work great and the breathability is top notch. Super lightweight too, forgot I was wearing a long sleeve in 90 degree 70 percent humidity weather!

This is not the old Exofficio

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

I have several of these shirts I started buying 6-7 years ago. I'm a big guy and always bought XXL. They fit fine, plenty roomy. This latest XXL fits about like an old Medium would. I've seen this quite a bit lately from other retailers such as the new JCPenney dress shirts that no longer fit.

I guess I have to scratch Exofficio off my list, too. Sad.

One day Whitney hike

One day Whitney hike

Thin , durable shirt. Good sun protection. Perfect on a warm day .

You are a stud if you did that from Whitney portal in a day.

That's what we did. 12 hours up and back. Not sure of the stud part. A 55 year old man past us like we were crawling...

Pletny of room

I picked up the Ex Officio Air Strip Lite Shirt for a canoe trip and it worked perfectly for keeping the sun and wind off all week. It breathes well, handles all sun, and has a number of features that seem small but add to the shirts functionality. I especially like the double collar for protecting your neck. The shirt is REALLY cut generously. This is great in the morning when you want to throw a base layer on under it and does help with keeping you cool, but if you are in between sizes, I'd say go smaller.

Not too bad

I generally wear just a synthetic t-shirt when I am hiking, but I like to keep this with me if I need the pocket space, extra layer, or something that fits nice and loosely. This is a very comfortable shirt that feels nice and light on the skin. I do like the way the sleeves roll up and secure with a button. The back vent is a nice feature. Although not my favorite hiking shirt, it is one of my hiking shirts.

Nice shirt, but it just don't fit

I ordered one of these shirts trying to find an answer for hiking on the Southeastern heat and humidity during the summer. The shirt is a nice shirt. UPF 30, loads of vents, and comfortable to wear, however, it just doesn't fit me.

I was between a large and an XL. I have read lots of reviews that stated that this shirt is quite roomy inside, but I have also read reviews in which people state that the sleeves came up a touch short. With this in mind I decided I could deal with sleeves that are a tad short rather than having a shirt that swallowed me up. I went with the large.

The short fits me correctly, however the sleeves are just a little more than a tad short. If I reach out in front of me the sleeves will ride midway up my forearm and then comes to a stop if the cuffs are buttoned. However, I was fine with simply leaving the cuffs unbuttoned.

Now, I did say that the shirt fits me correctly, judging by where the seams hit me along the shoulders. But I have found that the shirt is very baggy. I understand that this is intended to allow for sufficient air flow, but it seems a little excessive to me. And the huge pockets on the front only add to the bulk.

The short sleeves, and the extremely baggy fit kind of push it over the line for me and I believe that I will be returning it for another shirt.

But, saying all of this, I am still impressed with the overall quality and thought which has been put into this shirt. I am really bummed that it just doesn't fit me because I think that it would work out very well for the Southeastern summers...So, for that I give it 4 stars and would still recommend it to others. The only thing I would say is to try and go somewhere in which you could try it on first to be sure it fits you, and then to get the correct size.

Nice shirt, but it just don't fit

A good bit of information here, but unfortunately, not Chad's height & weight, which would have given us a more accurate reference point concerning the fit of the size large ExOfficio shirt.

GTB, sorry I did not list this bit of info. For point of reference, I am 5'10" and ~ 195 lbs. However, to be completely honest, I don't find this info to be much helpful since peoples arm lengths vary greatly. As a better point of reference, I wear dress shirts that are 16.5" in the collar and 34-35 in arm length. These fit me as a dress shirt should, which means the sleeves also rides up just a little when my arms are outstretched, however, the ExO shirt was much worse. And this is really sad too because I really wanted to like this shirt... Hope this helps some.

Is it worth the price?

Probably not but if you can find it on sale somewhere you're getting an excellent shirt. The greatness is in the details. The venting, the roll-up sleeves, the fabric and sun protection. The chest pockets are sizeable, I've lost things in them before. Beware that the sizing does run big and boxy.

Great for Hot Weather

This shirt does a great job keeping you cool in hot weather. Its a great alternative to wearing sunscreen if you're hiking above the tree line. I also wear it every time I travel and does a good job keeping me comfortable on long road trips or flights. The only word of warning is the fit is very large and boxy. Definitely order a size down.

Excellent trekker

This shirt ROCKS. I love that it is a little looser than Mountain hardwear, REI and north face brands. Not as many pockets as the others but including your pants/shorts, how many pockets do you need. The quality is excellent including very durable for how light it is. I was stuck on Mountain hardwear until I wore this shirt for a few days in havasupai/navajo falls Grand Canyon...

Plenty of features.

I have two of these shirts (one solid, one plaid), and usually take one to wear for extended trips. Tons of useful features like button-up sleeves, openable mesh back-panel, velcro front pockets. I did cut the secondary zip-pocket off to reduce weight as two pockets are enough for me. I recently wore one for 6-days straight, and it looks brand new after washing. The smalls are a little big for me, but I wouldn't want them skin tight in hot weather.

Plenty of features.

How much does a large weigh?

How much does a large weigh?

the ExOfficio AirStrip weighs 6 ounces for a med, so about 6.5oz for a large AirStrip.

My ExOfficio Air Strip Light Long Sleeve Shirt in a size Large weighs 8.1 oz. I weighed it on my scale.

Great Hot Weather Shirt

This shirt is great for hot, muggy weather. It hangs well and I really like the tabs to keep the sleeves rolled up. It's super fast drying which is really nice on trips when a washer and dryer aren't always easy to find.

Lovin it

Very legit shirt. Has suited me well on travels where the weather is constantly changing.

Nice, light material seems to wick both sweat and smell (something my last Columbia did not).

Dries fast, even in a humid environment, this shirt has become a go to for everything from fishing to hiking and travel.

When they say light, they mean light!

This is EXACTLY the shirt I wanted -- basically a cover-up to wear over a compression T-shirt on high-country summer hikes. It adds very little warmth, but it reflects a ton of UV. It has ample pockets but isn't tarted up with them like a lot of more fishing-oriented synthetic shirts. I love the multi-level fold-up collar. The square cut tails look good untucked but are long enough on me (5'9") to stay tucked in when that's needed.
