Description

Get aggressive with the Shaman LV.

Lisa Rands and Emily Harrington helped Chris Sharma design the Evolv Women's Shaman LV Climbing Shoe. With three of the top names in the industry behind it, you know the Shaman LV packs some serious vert-grabbing power. Climbers with lower-volume feet can step right into the Shaman LV for a precision fit augmented by triple hook-and-loop straps. Two signature features combine for a specific and strong transfer of energy; the 'Love Bump' eliminates under-toe dead space, while the 'Knuckle Box' holds your big toe in a position of power.

The climbing I do is split pretty evenly between bouldering and sport climbing. I want a shoe that is aggressive yet still edges and smears well. I'm deciding between the Shamans and La Sportiva Miuras- any suggestions?

Best Answer Responded on

Hi Sarah,
These Shamans and the velcro Muiras are intended primarily for bouldering and short, steep routes. If you can have two pair in your life, the Shaman would be an awesome go-to bouldering shoe. The lace-up Muiras will be more versatile, while still being aggressive. They are somewhat down-turned, but you can smear, edge well, and be more comfortable on longer routes. I hope this helps!

So I've tried on the men's version of this...

So I've tried on the men's version of this shoe but, of course, as I am a lady and have tiny feet, they didn't quite have my size yet seemed to fit me very well. I've never thought of my feet as "low volume" considering most climbing shoes I've owned have been men's shoes and they fit me perfectly (e.g. the la sportiva solutions). However, I'm interested how these LV women's shamans compare to the fit of the men's. And if I vary between a 6.5-7 (in women's street shoe sizes) should I lean towards the bigger size?

Best Answer Responded on

Hey Lauren. I would say size 6.5 since they will break in. They are synthetic tho so they won't stretch out as much as the solutions would. If you would like, email me and we can discuss a few options we can do about getting you the right size. My email is skdavis@backcountry.com

They fit like a foot-glove

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I've been super loyal to La Sportivas, but when I lost one of my Miuras and found myself needing a new pair, I decided to try these based on the reviews.
Fit: They're more down-turned than the Muiras, and they fit my feet like gloves. No dead space, no weird pressure points. They fit like suction cups, in a good way. Slightly less fine-tuning in the fit than my old lace-ups, but not really even an issue. For reference, I have a wide, short foot, and bought my street size. They're definitely tight (too tight to wear between more than a couple problems at first) but they've eased up a bit, and they never felt like the torture chambers that other aggressive shoes I've tried felt like.
Performance: I LOVE these for bouldering and overhanging sport routes. They turn your big toe into a laser-like power-pointer. I don't love them for slabbier stuff, as they don't smear very well due to the pointy, downturned toe, but they'll do the trick. I may get another pair for longer, slabbier climbs. I've only had them for about a month, but so far the edges are still in good shape. No problems with weird smells or blue feet.

help with size

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My normal shoe size is Women US 6.5. What size should I get on these Shaman LV. I want a tight fit but not too painful.
thanks for your help

Responded on

Hey Felp905407
They run true to size at first they will feel small but the leather does stretch. They have some break in time. It took me about three hard bouldering sessions during the winter but with summer coming around the heat will help break them in faster. I hope that this helps and let us know if you have any more questions.
Cheers!

These shoes STILL own your face off! I'm on my 13th month of pretty hard climbing in this suckers. This is my review on how they hold up over time!

1. They are incredibly comfortable after the break in period. I don't ever take them off during a climbing session. Seriously. I'm so comfy that I can just prance around like a pixie if I'm not on the wall.

2. They didn't have the insta-stink problem that every other pair of evolvs I had ever owned had. It took about 10 months for the stink to kick in. Hehehe, and now I just let them smell because I am going to get another pair, asap.

3. A year, plus, of climbing is a LONG TIME for a shoe to hold up this well. I was blowing through other pairs in as short as 3 months or as long as 5 before I owned these. They take a lickin' and keep on tickin'.

4. As said above, they are still tickin', however, they are also dying my feet odd shades of blue now in the toe box.

5. Still tickin', but the 'edges' are gone :\ They're much like any other shoe, now. I've worn that awesome, sharp edge right off of ALL SIDES hahaha. And yet, no holes in the toe box. No fabric showing. Still covered 100% in sticky rubber all the way around! Eff yeah!

6. I'm ordering another pair immediately.

7. Did I mention that I am ordering another pair immediately? Because that's happening. On pay day. Or tax refund deposit day. Or day that a large bag of money mysteriously shows up on my doorstep with a note that says, "Hey, Jeni. I heard you needed another pair of Shams. This big bag of money should make that happen for you."

So I got these shoes from my boyfriend as a Christmas gift! (yes, he really is the best!) and they are AMAZING! I love how light they are and the three hook and loop closure system is the best! I feel so secure and solid and the shoe stays to the skin at all times. I love how sticky the rubber is, I never have to worry about my foot slipping off unless its super polished and greasy. The shape and down turn are so helpful when it comes to getting up on your toes. Now the kicker is the toe! talk about kitty claws! you can literally stick the toe in a small little jig and with the help of the rubber it will hold! No problem crushing in these shoes.
The break in time is hard but that is pretty standard for most shoes. Don't be alarmed if it feels like your feet have been through Chinese foot binding this is normal. Give it about three sessions and you are golden! Also climbing with your shoes warm is the best way to break them in. I had the misfortune of getting them while the weather has been cold and it's taken me a bit longer to break them in but now I love them!
I wear a 6.5 in street shoes and the 6.5 in these fit just fine. At first they will feel small but they will stretch out I promise! I mainly boulder but these do great on sport routes as well.
If you are looking to progress and be a more aggressive climber these will help you out so much. I started climbing about four months ago and now I'm climbing v4+
I love these shoes and can't wait to get another pair after I blow these ones out! If you don't believe me? Read Jeni Nash's review!!! She Crushes!!
Also if you are looking into getting the mens version read BOTH of Grant Kates' review of these shoes.

Best Climbing Shoes Ever!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

These shoes are absolutely amazing! I had a pair of evolv shoes that weren't so aggressive and wanted a more aggressive shoe. They are able to get in spots that you wouldn't think would be possible. These are very comfortable despite how down turned they are. They are great for climbing as well as bouldering. I would definitely buy another pair of these! I normally wear a size 6 but went with a 6.5. The 6.5 fits perfect.

Send it! These will Help :')

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These shoes are super fun. Grippy, sticky, and all around a fun shoe for all types of climbing. Finding that they don't mind if it's not overhanging..steep and small edges, chicken heads, pockets, etc, they like to dip their toe inthere and grab on :) ..overhanging, very fun, as they hook n loop when needed, and overall just feel good.
Sizing is true. I wear a 5-6 shoe in general depending on what brand and style..and in these I have a 5.5. Slightest bit narrow on my right foot, but nothing about the shoe, more about my foot :0).

All Around

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Perfect for a combination of bouldering and sport climbing. Also fits just as well as a lace-up shoe.

I wanted a more technical shoe for bouldering that could also be used for vertical climbs, and this shoe has the specs for both. The toe and the insole curve are just aggressive enough to encourage using your feet properly, but are not so downturned that they hinder edging and smearing.

Like everyone else has said, don't downsize for this shoe. I wear a 6.5-7 regular shoe, and the 6.5 Evolv has been perfect (although at first I could barely get my foot into it!). It is also a painful break-in. But it only took 2 days of climbing for them to stop hurting.

I have narrow feet, and almost had to buy lace-ups to get a good fit. No shoes that only have 2 velcro straps were snug enough. But the Shaman's three straps make a difference. The ability to take the shoes off between climbs means that they will continue to fit better than lace-up ones that you end up walking around in.

Happy Feet

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I wanted a more aggressive bouldering shoe, but struggled to find one that fit well due to my feet being cursed by the climbing gods (low volume with a morton's toe). Then the clouds parted and down came the shaman lv--roomy toe box, love bump and all that, but shrunk from the original shamans to fit narrow, thin feet.

I've been climbing in them for a few weeks now, so I can't comment on durability yet. However, size-wise. I'm a women's 9 in street shoes. I was climbing in Five Ten Anasazi's LV size 9 (which reminds me--I do miss the C4 rubber, but I'll get the Anasazi's resoled and split my allegiance). I found that I had to size down in the shamans to 8.5. My street shoe size had too much room in the heel and arch--it didn't feel very secure. 8.5 has been perfect.

Awesome low volume gnar climbing shoe!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have extremely low volume feet with high arches, and these shoes feel like they were made for me. I've always been partial to evolv shoes because I like that they don't cut into the back of my heel the way other shoes always seem to. Until now, they haven't had an aggressive shoe specifically designed for women's feet. Get STOKED because these are just what the doctor ordered!
After asking the staff at Evolv about how the sizing of this shoe runs, I sized up to a 6.5 US to accommodate for the aggressive styling. This show is downturned and down cambered, love bump and different toe box (I wear a 5.5 US in Evolv Rockstars & Elektras; both of these shoes have ). Evolv's website has a great breakdown of different types of shoes here:
http://www.evolvsports.com/sp/product-icons/

I've climbed on overhanging, slab, and cracks of granite in Little Cottonwood Canyon and indoors in these shoes (sport & bouldering). The styling really makes sticking the tiniest ledges almost effortless, and my ability to climb ceilings instantly increased due to the minimal effort I now need to use to keep my feet planted. The shoe is surprisingly comfortable for the style (not recommended for prolonged wear!), and the extra straps really allow you to cinch it down in a way that other velcro enclosure shoes have missed out on until now.
For what I have used them for thus far, they are shaping up to be a pretty amazing shoe. I give it five stars, and highly recommend it to others!

Awesome Shoe

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Had these shoes for almost two months now and I love them. Awesome grip, great fit, aggressive downturn. They run true to size. I wear a 7.5-8 in street shoes and got these in a 7.5. There is some air in the heel, but it's never caused an issue while climbing. As with most shoes, they start out tight and give a little, but still stay nice and snug. I would definitely recommend these

So I'm an 8.5 in street shoes. A 39 in sportivas what shoe size should I go with in these?

Responded on

I sized up from a US 5.5 in evolv rockstars to a US 6 in these to accomodate for the 'love bump' and more aggressive styling of the show. Which sportivas are you climbing in? A lot goes into the size comparison (width of the rand, angle of downturn (if any), symmetry of toe, etc). The word I received from Evolv when I reached out to them on sizing was to bump up half to a full size from my other Evolv brand shoes, but the correlation doesn't work for this situation. If all else fails, give BC a call and we can help you out!

Responded on

in the men's, i sized up a half size from my other evolv shoes. i've also worn lots of sportiva and am a full size up from those.

Is the shoe size for these in men or women?...

Is the shoe size for these in men or women? I know it's a women shoe, but want to make sure on the sizing.

Hey Jason - you got it right, sizing is women's for this one.
