Whether you’re cranking your first lead or looking for an all-day shoe for multi-pitch routes, the Evolv Royale Climbing Shoe gives you a super-comfortable fit without breaking the bank. The partially lined leather upper stretches slightly over time to mold to your foot, and the double toe rand withstands prolonged use and the occasional toe drag. Evolv added mesh tongue for ventilation and sticky TRAX rubber for enhanced friction on any rock type.
Bottom Line: Deluxe comfort without the deluxe price tag.
I'm completely new to climbing, so this is my first pair of climbing shoes, so is there any style of sock that works better than others with climbing shoes?
Got these on SnC on a whim almost a year ago. For what the Royale is, they're great. For any trad route, or non-techy/non-super overhung sport route they'll crush.
Full leather with toebox lining allows conformity in the toes and perfect stretch everywhere else. The reinforced rand and stiffer midsole mean edging is easy and slopy footwork isn't going to make you throw these things away after a month of use. Tongue of the shoe is ultra comfy and breathable, probably more so than any other evolv shoe I've worn/seen.
I sized em down 1.5 from street and they stretched well after a couple days/week to be the perfect half day to all day shoe. Wearing them hour after hour only feels like someone threw a nice, comfortable, and supportive, semi-sensitive rubber sock on you.
There have been no durability issues with the rubber or any kind of peeling, etc. The eyelets of the leather material get a bit of wear from tightening the laces, but they won't break or tear on you due to some reinforcement stitching in the area.
I believe these are a nice, well thought out addition to any trad climber or a beginning sport climber.

been using theses a lot in the gym and they've been nothing short of amazing. I've got a foot that's exactly 9 1/2 inches and I ordered the 8.0's. Don't get me wrong they were nice and tight, but they started stretching within 2 sessions and every trip they become more and more perfect.
The toe is pretty round, but it hasn't harmed my opinion. If anything it s even more supportive on dimes because of it. Rubber is mega grippy in the gym and I could only see these kicking ass outside. These have great breathability and the tongue is padded very well. I've worn these + 4 hours straight without much issue besides the occasional foot cramp. Heel is solid and grippy for hooks and matches and there's no wiggle either, I don't have large heels.
Worth what I paid on snc for sure. They're not the greatest for overhangs but but not the worst either!
Forgot to mention that the toe is slightly downturned and has a bit of a lip to it. So you can grab things with your feet without too much effort when it gets overhung on your route. Like i said, not the best for overhangs, but since the toe has stayed downturned, they're not terrible either.
And they totally turn your feet blue, even after months of use. Not the entire foot, just where you sweat on the upper. Since they breathe really well it's not that bad.
Climbing at X rock Durango Colorado. I love these shoes. I have climbed all types of rock plus indoor stuff and love them. I place them as one of the best all around shoes money can by.
It really depends on how you like your climbing shoe to fit. Since these are leather uppers, the'll give you a good amount of stretch. Probably anywhere from 1-2 sizes of stretch depending on how tight you like to tie them. So I'd say get a 10.0 and assume they'll be a little tight at first, but after the first two times out, they'll probably start to move towards that "perfect fit."
These are my first climbing shoes. They are made with simple but quality construction and I dont see them falling apart anytime soon. I normally wear a size 10 average width in all my shoes from mountaineering to runners and a size 10 in these are tight fitting at the toes but they fit well. The Royales being my first climbers, I was told they fit perfect because they are not supposed to be comfortable. I have used them on an indoor climbing wall and on a 5.6 climb at Red Rock and I was happy how well they worked for me. I am a beginner so I didnt want to spend a lot on shoes so these were it. These are inexpensive but not by any means cheap. And NO they won't turn your feet blue.
Great thus far. New to the sport so I haven't done anything NOT on the newb level. Tried on many and this one was the most conformable in this price range. Probably one of the most comfortable out of any. Evolv claims the the upper will not stretch. I have not noticed anything yet that indicates otherwise. Great shoe so far!
I just got these shoes and I got them a half size smaller than my street shoes and they fit pretty good now but how much more will they stretch out because they are leather?
They are going to stretch but your good sence your got them a size smaller then your acual size is wouldnt really worry about the streching. i dont think thats its going to afect the preformance of the shoe
