Forget the Elan you used to know. This year Elan brings the M999 Alpine Ski; a fat ski that craves the steepest, deepest terrain. Booya. Float the light stuff with a substantial (99mm waist) platform under your boot. The M999's softer flex that allows the tips to stay afloat in the deepest, lightest snow. The first time you get on them you'll be shocked at how fast you're tearing through powder. Instead of straight-lining runs to keep your speed, you'll be able to lay out big carves and tight turns, making the most of a sick snow day. Elan dialed the M999 as a pow ski, but thanks a carbon laminate and ABS sidewalls, it still has the teeth to tear into the corduroy or the crud.

Bottom Line: The Elan M999—a quiver ski that excels when the snow's flying.

I am from Australia but have been skiing in Japan lately which is full of waist deep powder which I assume these skis would be great for. What would they be like on the groomed corn days when the top lifts are closed due to wind?

true 1 ski quiver for pow and carving

I have the 07 m999s and they just rock. They hold up in high speed turns and variable snow, though they are really at home in the bottomless. The carbon and titanium layers mean they are both damp and powerful, though soft enough to float in the pow and even pull tight radius stuff in chutes where you need to set up your line. being a full twin tip, they ski a little shorter, and I really notice the forgiveness when the bumps appear and I am in and out of troughs. On really windblown hardpack, I had to be careful about my line as they started to chatter up, but on anything softer, they can straightline or round it out all day.
a real one ski quiver if you can push the 99 waist.
I say buy them!
