Well designed, wanting for nothing
First off, I will readily admit that I am partially biased in giving a review of this, due to the fact that I don't have what amounts to any other experience with what you might call "outdoor" or "active" fleeces, so keep that in mind.
However, I needed one a few weeks ago, and this one happened to be on sale; given that I had picked up an Eider beanie a few months ago, been impressed with its capability and performance for the value, decided that I would again go with a company whose product had served me well in picking up my first "real" outdoor-appropriate fleece layer.
Relatively lightweight (again, I do not have experience with other brands and their products from this category, so I don't know how it compares), flexible freedom of movement, athletic and form-fitting to an impressive degree, and capable of wicking quite a bit of moisture and excessive heat in a brief amount of time, I cannot say I have a complaint at all.
I notice that others before me have discussing its low profile and additional thumb holes, so while I feel it somewhat repetitive to applaud such features, I will concur with their opinions that both are enticing features that enhance the versatility and desirability of the fleece itself.
Additionally, the high collar is exceptional at blocking light breezes and doesn't squeeze, but does well in standing up of its own accord. Moreover, the fabric does allow for stretching and moving without shifting hardly at all, staying in place where you desire it to. Eider is fast becoming a clothing company I know I can trust to perform and deliver when and where I want it to.
Awesome ski fleece
This is an awesome layering piece for skiing. The super stretchy fleece is comfortable with great movement and the flatlock stitching allows it to lay flat against your base layer (instead of adding bulk like many other fleeces I've tried)
The best part though is the hood. It's perfect under your ski helmet and since it has a high collar it acts almost like a balaklava or buff...but without adding stuffiness or bulkiness under your jacket collar.
The thumbies are a nice touch as well so you can easily slide your jacket and gloves over the top without bunching.
My husband and I both have this piece and absolutely love it--plus it has cool street appeal!

- Familiarity: I've used it several times
This is a great layering piece. I use it almost every time I am in the mountains.
It works great as an outer piece in the winter while backcountry skiing or ice climbing and if the temperatures dip too low or the wind picks up I just toss on a light waterproof shell. In the summer I really enjoy it in the morning for those cold alpine starts when rock climbing and then later in the day while hanging out on belay or climbing in the shade. I never worry about tearing it as the stretch material is super durable, but still glides well under my outer layers.
