Lightweight comfort wherever and whatever you're climbing.

Edelrid designed its lightweight Orion Harness to keep you comfortable whether you're rock climbing single pitches in the summer, ice climbing multiple pitches in the winter, or mountaineering throughout the year. The Orion owes its light weight (less than a pound) to the revolutionary 3D-Vent Technology that strategically places durable webbing in ergonomic positions so this harness conforms to your body like a glove. Apart from keeping the harness super light, this technology also completely eliminates pressure points so you can hang on routes all day in total comfort, and it allows plenty of air to flow through the harness for excellent ventilation.

Edelrid equipped the waist with one auto-locking Slide Block buckle for your convenience, and both leg loops have Slide Block buckles to completely open the legs up so you can put the harness on even while you're wearing crampons. The Orion also features an abrasion protector at the tie-in point to keep it strong for many years, four asymmetric gear loops for excellent organization, and two attachment points for ice screws.

    Comfortable Harness. Fit Smallish

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This harness is great. It's comfortable, has perfectly positioned gear loops and the wide hip and leg bands are super comfortable. They designed a great system to keep straps out of the way after you tighten them. I recommend this harness for anyone trying to send.

Fit wise, I'm a 32" waist. Ordered the small and then returned it for a medium. FYI

    The height of comfort

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Just purchased and have only used a few times but the most comfortable harness I've hung in.

Took a couple lead falls in this at the gym, going for full pump. No bunching, digging, or anything otherwise uncomfortable or sketch.

Wide stiff bands mean more support with minimal padding. Allows for better air flow and you don't feel like you're wearing your couch.

    Easy, smooth mechanism for adjusting.

    Has stayed adjusted.

No bulky padding to compress/bunch/twist in a fall or hold a bunch of sweat.

Very comfortable when on belay monkey duty. Virtually no bite from leg loops.

No issues with tie in points being small, seems pretty easy to thread both points with 10mm rope or gym's monster auto belay biner.

Takes some concentration to hook a BD Hotwire up to the rear loop while the harnesses is on but it's doable and not an issue with harness off.

I'm not sure how much I'd rely on the rear loop, seems like a heavy weight tag but not much more. I just use for my chalk bag, so not an issue for me.

Due to stiffness of bands it can take up some room in a bag/pack.

Not sure how comfort will be affected as the stiff nylons soften with use.

Likely best suited to sport climbing/light trad routes, so most of SoCal.

I dig the bright colors though with all my other gear ends up with a more harlequin effect if it matters to any one.

LOVE IT, GET IT, RIGHT NOW!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have a thin build so a comfy harness is important to me. I have a 32" waist and I purchased the medium size Orion. When I pull it all the way up above my hips and synch it down I almost pull all the tab through. So if you thin maybe think about a small but I got a medium so i can throw layers under it and still have it fit well.

If you hate getting that nasty sweat line on your back and around your legs seriously consider this guy. The ventilation is amazing and also keeps the harness light. I was helping a friend put up a new route and ended up being his belay buddy for an entire day and my legs felt way better at the end of the day than I expected. The harness does a good job at spreading the weight across the entire band instead of just a thin line so all those fancy blue lines wrapping around the waist and leg loops are actually life savers. I was still hanging in a harness all day so my legs were a bit sore but they never went numb or made me feel majorly uncomfortable.

I happily give this guy five stars. It amazing. Buy it. Buy it now.

    Best harness I've used

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

In my video, I compare it to the Petzl Sama. The Orion is the best harness I've ever used. It's super comfortable and offers great support and weight distribution.

    Awesome!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have a bad back and climb pretty frequently. This harness has allowed me to be able to do so without discomfort, which is something new. My previous harnesses simply did not offer enough width and support to my lower back where my injury is, and all of that changed with the Orion. This harness is light, comfortable and generally awesome. I don't notice it and did a bit of hangdoggin/falling on it this weekend at Indian Creek with no back pain. Great success!

The only complaint I have is that the harness isn't super compressible by modern standards, but I didn't notice it taking up any extra room. I am also skeptical of Edelrid after having a gear loop rip on a previous harness of theirs, but the construction on this harness seems to be different. If anything earth-shattering occurs I will update this review.

    Really comfortable harness

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is among the most comfortable harnesses I've ever used. It is my go to for sport and trad climbing. Really nice for taking a lot of falls and even hanging belays on multi-pitch routes. The gear loops are easy to use and in the right places. The wide stiff padding is what makes this so comfortable. The only downside is that this also does not compress much so it takes up a little more space in your pack. I leave this one home for alpine climbing trips and long treks into climbing areas.

Will you be getting in anymore size M?
