Sometimes you pack three different outfits for each day, and sometimes you pack three outfits for four weeks. Whether you're going to Paris for fashion week or making your way through southeast Asia over the course of a month, the Eagle Creek Tarmac 25 Rolling Gear Bag will happily hold your stuff without suffering the ill effects of long-haul travel.

While this bag cannot withstand the forces of steel trucks carrying fuel tanks, it can take a lot. Bi-Tech and Bi-Tech Armor fabrics resist abrasions from rough baggage handlers, as well as the bumps and bruises incurred on the bus ride through rural Laotian villages. Ultra rugged wheels with protective bumpers withstand being jostled through crowds as you dive towards a crowded taxi stand.

The Tarmac 25 is more than just a tough exterior. The padded exterior pocket protects electronics en route to the airport, or detailed route maps and travel books en route to your destination. A lockable 3-1-1 stash pocket has a key fob and provides just enough space for your see-through plastic containing liquids and gels. The coat-keeper bungee cord stays hidden in the stash pocket when it's not holding your travel pillow or security blanket. The main compartment expands by 15% to accommodate your travel souvenirs and snow globes. Multiple padded handles make the Tarmac 25 easy to grab from any angle, even if its fuller than a stuffed turkey on Thanksgiving.

Great bag. Happy I bought it.

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Just came back from my first trip using my new Eagle Creek Tarmac 25 bag, and it worked great. I bought it because it was 5 lbs lighter than my previous bag while still being heavy duty, and had a life-time guarantee. (This was my first purchase from BackCountry.com and I bought it from them because it was 20% less expensive than at REI, had free shipping, and no sales tax...seemed like a good deal.) It had ample room for all my stuff. I initially felt like I needed to open the extra 15% expansion to fit my stuff in but ended up zipping the expansion closed after my packing was done and everything compressed nicely. I noticed the difference in weight... 5lbs lighter may not seem like a lot but I appreciated it in lifting the bag at the airport and moving the bag through the airport/hotels/etc. The wheels worked great over a variety of different roadways/walkways and up and down curbs. The handle extends nicely and isn't wobbly like I've experienced in some bags when extended... it was solid. The various compartments with "built in volume" worked nicely to pack different things in different places. I highly recommend this bag.

Plenty of space and compartments. Love the exterior. Bag appears durable and if not, there's a lifetime warranty. Big enough for a week's vacation without a problem.
