Will this bag fit in the overhead bins of international flights? I need a good quality bag with daypack that I can carry onboard with me that will hold 2 weeks worth of travel accessories and clothes to Europe and Africa.

Responded on

I don't think you can get this one through as a carry on with it fully loaded.

Is the bag rain proof / weather proof? If it rains, will the clothing on the inside get wet?

Responded on

You would need to buy a rain cover that slips over the pack.

I'M TRAVELING TO EUROPE AFRICA THIS SUMMER, 9 WEEKS. TRYING TO DECIDE BETWEEN THE NORTH FACE BACKTRACK 70 OR THE EAGLE CREEK GRAND VOYAGE 90L. EAGLE CREEK HAS MORE SPACE, NORTH FACE HAS SOME NICE FEATURES. ANY SUGGESTIONS.

Responded on

While I don't have any experience with either packs, if I were in your shoes I'd probably go with the Eagle Creek Grand Voyage 90L only because it will hold more, it's lighter, and it is easier on your wallet. Plus many of the attributes are the same. Both get good reviews... you'll probably be happy with whatever decision you make.

I am a 5ft 3in orienntal lady and will be travelling in South America this fall. Would this bag be too big and heavy for me? Please advise.

Hi Nancy,If you're fairly strong you should be fine. It carries pretty well so that's going to aide in the hauling process, but really you should be okay as long as you are even average strength.

can you access the big bag even while the smaller bag is attached? is it a hassle if you can't?

Responded on

Yes you can- the main bag is a panel opening and you can get in there even when the daypack is attached...

World wide tested

Just Finished a 10 month round-the-world trip in March with this bag on my back. Looked at every bag I could find before I selected this one. It had the right balance of comfortable to wear on long walks, easy to access main compartment, and the matching backpack (I wasn't sure about) was the surprise MVP. The bag has plenty of room, and great utility with the wide opening front. I had a mountaineering bag that I almost used instead to save cash, but glad I opted to go with this because of the much easier access. Probably the coolest part is the small backpack that comes with it. As a traveler, you need your big bag of stuff, but a small bag for day hikes and sightseeing. Being able to clip this small bag on to the shoulder harness and keep it in front of you is great for balancing the load, and keeping your valuables safe. We only lost a laptop and a total of 4 cameras - but that wasn't the bag's fault. (The thieves know the good stuff is in the small bag) My girlfriend and traveling partner got the smaller 70L version and loved hers as well. Oh, we also saved on bag storage fees by being able to zip the small bag onto the big bag - there you go - one bag. Highly recommend it, and I'm buying one for my father who is retiring this week.

is there a zip on the front to access the big pack? not just to take the smaller pack off

Responded on

Yes, the big bag has a zipper that fully opens the bag. You simply lay it down on it's back, and zip open the whole bag for unfettered access.
