New and improved.

Newness can be scary—remember when you tried Rocky Mountain oysters for the first time?—but it often makes your life better; now you can't go three days without stuffing some moose nuggets down your gullet. Similarly, Dynastar made some changes to the new Cham 2.0 117 Ski (specifically, it took out the metal and replaced it with fiberglass laminates) but if you give it a chance to prove itself, we don't think you'll be disappointed. Dynastar built the Cham 117, the biggest in the lineup, with a light Paulownia wood core that's been laminated with fiberglass to serve up solid amounts of torsional stiffness and power when you're mobbing down wind-buffed faces, busting through chop, or rallying the groomers back to the lift. Without metal, this year's Cham isn't quite as damp or burly,  but it's more playful, lighter, and more ready for the backcountry, which is a killer tradeoff.

Traditional camber underfoot and full-length vertical sidewalls give you tons of edging power, and the gradual tip rocker helps the ski float through the cold smoke and gobble up day-old leftovers like they're a five-course meal. The Cham 117 also features Dynastar's progressive five-point sidecut, which combines a tapered tip and tail with traditional sidecut underfoot to give you the best edging, smearing, and turning performance this side of a sports car. The tapered tip engages like a dream but won't hook up or get twitchy at speed, and the tapered pintail helps you float through the deep and lets you dump speed in a hurry when you find yourself heading for an unexpected air. The Cham's sandwich construction lays down plenty of toughness, power, and durability, too, so you won't feel out of place ripping some hardpack to ribbons when it hasn't snowed in a few days.
