Description

The DMM Shield Quickdraw brings you a new gate design for a new world of easy clipping.

The Shield Quickdraw utilizes DMM's one-of-a-kind Wirelock design to allow super-easy clipping in the most desperate situations. The Wirelock gate has low mass to keep it from fluttering open in a fall, and the keylock notch makes clipping and unclipping far easier than with standard carabiners. Though the Shield Quickdraw is great for sport and trad climbing, the freeze-proof gates and water-repellant Dyneema sling also make it ideal for ice and alpine climbing. DMM made this quickdraw out of aluminum for a low weight of 2.7oz, so it won't weigh down your harness when you start up the ninth long pitch of the day.

What is the nose width on those?
What is the weight in grams for 12cm version? For 18cm version?

Answering myself: I've been told by David from DMM that the width of the nose is 10.7mm, and depth (looking side on) is 10.3mm. That's slimmier than Alpha Trad @ 11.9/10.8mm.

The 12cm ones are my favorite draws to rack up, they are light and easy to clip and clean, which is a must have when you are dangling upside down form the second bolt to clean the first bolt in the Red. I'm not sure how long the thin dog bones will hold up, but so far it has been a great draw. I also swapped the bottom carabiner on my 18cm ones with a revolver so the anchor draws have a little less drag and don't blacken the rope too much, and I am very pleased with this mod.

These draws remind me of a big gym draw that is nearly impossible to miss a clip, but are incredibly light for how big they look. Awesome draw easy cleaning and look awesome DMM has some awesome gear

Great Draw

12cm DMM Shield QD is a great quickdraw - light, smooth, easy to grab and handle. Binners are top quality (as expected when you buy DMM gear).

18cm is so-so. Dogbone twists, bolt end binner twists.

If you are not on budget grab 8 or so 12cm DMM Shield QDs and 8 or so 18cm Petzl Spirit. 8 12cm DMM Shields will serve as short sport draws and trad draws, 8 Spirits will serve when pushing up on your next extra hard sport project. Thus you will have a universal "do it all" set of quickdraws.

The alpha sport VW by DMM is, in my experience, more stable in hand and easier to clip without sacrificing durability.

I have 12 of these on my rack and I love them. Light, smooth gate and easy to handle. They aren't the cheapest draw but they're definitely my favourite.

These are some incredible quickdraws! Really really light and insanely easy to clip in to.
I have a rack of mixed draws, mainly consisting of these and Wild Country Wildwires. I save placing these until last when I can start feeling the weight of my gear.
My only slight issue is that the gate is so narrow, sometimes the caribiner can be hard to open when taking off your gear loops. This is a minor problem, and once they break in a little bit, things get much smoother and nicer.
If they weren't so dang expensive, I'd have a rack of all of these draws

These are absolutely plush. So light they feel like they could almost float upwards out of your hand. You may wan to intermingle some longer draws on your rack in order to have some options for medium extensions since these are somewhat short (but not so much so that you 'need' longer ones).

I love the clean action, the wire gate, the nice clipping, and the lightweight. My girlfriend finds them hard to un-clip because of the smaller gate. Other than that they are great!

The quickdraws are hard to touch. They are super lightweight, and I really like the action. I have heard some comment that the action is a little stiff, but I think it's right on.

The only con is the price. If money is no object, or if they’re having a killer sale, I say go for it.

I recently bought this quickdraw and began using it the next day. Its innovative gate structure provides the lightweight design of a wire gate but does not compromise with its closure: a non-snag system (like Petzl's carabiners). I bought the 18cm model which is surprisingly lightweight for its strength. Great quickdraw with a design that makes you go wow. I would strongly recommend buying one.

Lightest, strongest ball-lock, Best. Sooo expensive. If you can afford the best, get like 12 of these.

I would say the top two draws are this one and the Petzl spirit. But for the best of the best, it is the DMM Shield. They are super light, oh so smooth, and they just look damn sexy. You have no reason to doubt this draw, it is the best out there.
