    Details

Simple, effective alpine women's pack for guides or serious alpinists.

Not only does the Deuter Women's Guide Lite 28 SL Backpack save weight with its sleek, alpine-ready design, but it's built to fit lady mountaineers for ultimate comfort during challenging climbs and long backcountry tours. The women-specific SL fit, lightweight materials, and versatile features on this alpine pack ensure a superior fit during the long approach, icy ascent, and demanding descent. Even when fully loaded, the Alpine Back system keeps the load solid and balanced with its Delrin frame, adjustable waist-belt, and removable padding.

    • Alpine Back System features a removable, padded back panel and two foam strips with a ventilation channel between them that draws cool air in and expels hot air out like a chimney
    • SL women-specific fit includes a shorter back length and a curve-accommodating harness to match female frames (as well as smaller males)
    • Adjustable shoulder harness and waist-belt feature anatomically shaped pads for exceptional all-day comfort
    • Height-adjustable top lid lets you overload the pack when necessary
    • Reinforced ski loops (130mm wide) enable an A-frame-style ski carry
    • Padded pack carries up to 28lb on the longer alpine approaches and only weighs 2lb 5oz
    • Foam back panel can be removed for use as a bivy or sitting mat
    • Durable ripstop and MacroLite fabrics shed snow and withstand abuse from years of mountaineering
    • Top lid features a main pocket to stow a map or headlamp and also includes a security pocket on the underside to hide valuables
    • Ice-axe attachment safely tucks away your tools when not in use
    • Climbing gear loops on the waist-belt hold hardware during more vertical alpine ascents and descents, while a front daisy chain and top lashing loops attach additional gear
    • Side compression straps lock down the load to keep it solid while you're skiing or climbing
    • Pack fits torso sizes between 15-19in long
    • Item #DTR2626

Good fit, but could be better

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm a beginner-ish smaller female climber (dabbled for years, but off and on and never too serious about the sport) who has been climbing outdoors more recently and wanted a pack that was more comfortable than backpacking packs to bring gear up steeper approaches and scree fields. This pack fit my criteria in being narrower and having a torso length that actually fits (better center of gravity, less likely to throw me off balance and catch nearby brush). Although the torso length is shorter and makes it easier to grab things from the harness, still not sure I'd want to climb with this pack- the top of the internal frame is a little too tall for me and I could barely look up without hitting my head on the frame. Also, the narrower frame makes it harder to take bulkier gear like ropes in and out- but it's a trade off I'm willing to make for a better fit and lighter pack. Two pockets in the brain are nice, and two drawstrings could be helpful for wet weather and/or when you're filling it up to capacity.

I don't ice climb or skiier, so can't comment on the gear loops.

Overall, much better fit for smaller people than the average pack, but I'm still looking for a better one.
