Certainly not every pack doubles as body armor for mountain biking. In fact, we hadn’t heard of any until the Deuter Attack Hydration Backpack came along. Not only can you haul 3 liters of water with this pack, you also protect your spine—so go ahead and huck that cliff.

  • Deuter’s Shield back system sandwiches closed-cell foam between two sheets of PE to give you protection and shock absorption
  • Hip fins on belt stabilize the armor next to your body
  • Includes space for your full-face helmet
  • Large storage compartment and front pocket for a layer, snacks, and bike tools
  • BPA-free water reservoir holds your liquid of choice

Bottom Line: A hydration pack for adrenaline junkies on two wheels.

Tough

This bag is tough. Had some run-ins with the slick rocks in Moab with no wear or tear observable on the fabric. It stores a good amount of water and stays put when biking. The insulation ability of the bag is great. I fill my bag with about 1 liter of ice, 1 liter of water and there's still plenty of ice in the bag after 6 hours in 80 degree temp. Compared to the Dakine 18L, the ice melted in about 4 hours.

What this loses out on is storage space. While the Dakine has a bunch of pockets and compartments this one only has 2.

If you're getting it for hydration and/or back protection this is the pack for you. If you're looking for storage, you may want to consider others.

Absolutely Sick!

I just logged my first ride in with this pack and must say, this is a top notch product. Deuter makes great packs in general and this is no exception. The back breathes great due to the spacing between the grey mesh foam and the back of the pack is a rigid plate offering a ton of protection over any other hydration pack. The protected area covers the tail bone too and wraps around the hip. Just a well thought out product that is comfortable and offers a bit more piece of mind. It comes with a 3L bladder with an easy clean system where the top unfolds for easy cleaning.
