Would this bag work as a carry on for international flights?

    Megan,

The general FAA standard is 45 linear inches and most major airlines have dimensional restrictions of about 22"x14"x9", although that will vary somewhat between different airlines. Since the Deuter ACT Zero 45+15 SL is well outside of both those standards, with 49 linear inches and 29" x 11" x 9", I wouldn't risk it.

Trekking backpacks in general tend to be a difficult carry on fit because their height will typically exceed the standard even if total linear inches does not.
