Focused in function.

Emilio De Marchi and his wife Emma were there from the beginning, crafting cycling-specific apparel for their pro-rider friends starting way back in the 1920s. As the sport grew and needs evolved, fabrics and construction had to, as well, which is how we find our way to the De Marchi PRO Bib Tights, purpose-built to provide warmth and comfort to keep you going through winter weather.

De Marchi developed its Roubaix material specifically for this sort of application, which is why you'll find the remarkable stuff all over this piece. Developed for cold weather riding, Roubaix is a winter-weight microfiber that uses an interlocking knit construction, feeling not unlike typical Lycra to the touch, but keeping wind and cold out, while the soft, fleece-like feel of its interior lends additional warmth.

So, do De Marchi's chamois' get the same level of attention as their fabrics? Indeed. In fact, CyTech, the company responsible for the Elastic Interface Technology inserts found in the world's finest cycling apparel, was conceived originally by De Marchi - which is to say, De Marchi's knowledge and familiarity with the importance of chamois comfort and performance is second to none. In its Race version of the EIT insert used in the PRO Bib Tights, attention was focused on the perineal, ischial, and gluteal areas - the points most prone to distress from saddle pressure and compression. Supporting these regions, the EIT Race chamois keeps you more comfortable for longer, and also promotes circulation throughout your undercarriage to prevent numbness.

The De Marchi PRO Bib Tights are available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large in the color Black.

A teeny big in the legs but meh.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bought these on sale. Wore them out on various bike rides (20-40 degree winter weather) and decided either embrocation cream or thermal tights were needed. As the title suggests, they are a tiny bit roomy through out the thigh but all in all they are well worth the money. The chamois is very comfortable.

Runs true to US sizes

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I purchased previously a short bib from the same DeMarchi Pro family and was surprised to find this tights run more like the US size rather than the European cut. I am 6 feet, 185 lbs. and bought the Large size and fit perfectly. It's just an inch or less long at the bottom, but you can't tell when you are riding. The short bib version was so small that I had to buy XXL instead. Anyhow, I have used it twice in 50-60 mile rides (road) in FL at 40 degrees F and it provides the right amount of protection without overheating. They provide good compression and have not felt hot in the back at all. The chamois feels good for such mileage. Overall, I think they are great for the price and the quality is right on...they are a keeper!

Stated sizes apparently run large

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

OK, reading through the negative reviews about this had me concerned. But a common thread (unintentional pun) was that the tights seemed to be too large and ill-fitting. So, I ordered the next size down (I'm 6', 154+/- #'s). Initial impression? They fit quite well on me -- even around my non-sprinter thighs. Yes, they are a little loose around the bottom leggings (calves' area was OK), but it's to be expected without zippers. In my view, that's a plus, as I don't get the binding around the ankles, which decreases the blood flow trying to keep you warm. I was pleasantly surprised with the fabric weight/thickness. Suitably insulated, not too puffy, and moved well with me on the bike. I tested these on my 20-minute AM commute in upper-20s degree (F) weather, and they performed as needed. I'd suggest a petroleum jelly or other embrocation for the knees for extended cold-weather riding as insurance, however.

Unbelieveable Bib

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Bought this Bib last week and it is the best bang for the buck. Matched up to my Castelli, Canari, and Pearl, this Bib was beyond what was expected. Based on all the negative write-up, I almost did not buy. But this is why you take others' comments with a grain of salt. This is a magnificent piece and it is well worth the price. I did a 50 mile ride and my legs was warm and felt good right through. This is definitely a keeper and matched up with the very best out there.

Sizing is NOT typical Italian

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I don't know what's up with DeMarchi, but the sizes are NOT typical of Italian clothing. I'm an XL in Santini, Nalini, etc. but I'll need to swap the XL's I ordered for M's! Otherwise they look great, as expected from Made in Italy stuff.

Responded on

I own a lot of De Marchi clothing (and Castelli and Santini). When you purchase De Marchi you receive classic styling, high quality CyTech chamois (esp in the higher end pieces), high quality fabrics and perfect QC, always Made in Italy (including the fabrics), and family owned since 1947. That said, sizing is a challenge with Italian brands. All Italian brands. Sizing can be specific to each individual item. Yes, it is a PITA.

I'm usually a XL in Castelli jerseys, a XXL in Santini jerseys, and usually a XL in De Marchi jerseys. BUT I'm a L in these specific De Marchi long-bibs. Go figure. The charts are often misleading. That's why these forums exist.

Bought on sale, the right size per the size chart (L), but found them way too long for my size & height (just over 6', 165lbs), a bit loose, and the fabric lighter/thinner than expected. Returned them- appreciate the fast credit from CC. Will look at other brands.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I used the fit guide included with the description of this tight and find them to be too large for me. At 5'6" the guide suggests a medium. The medium is loose and long! Small would have been the better choice. That said, the tight are very comfortable and the chamois is fairly comfortable for several hour rides. The tights are relatively warm, comfortable on rides that have dipped into the 20's.

Odd fittings

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I own a few pieces of De Marchi and everything fits me perfectly in size M except this tight. The fit just feels weird and lack of compression. No zippers at the ankles and the elastic grip bands are kind of too big. They use the same material on the upper back panel which I think is not very breathable, overkill and overheating in the back easily. A friend ordered this for me at 50% off and I didn't want to bother him to return it, so I just keep it as a cheap training tight.

This is additional to my previous review, I want to give it a fair review that after a few washes, it seems to fit better and a little bit more compression.

Weird Sizing

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Does not fit right. I am six feet one inches, 180lbs, bought an X-large and the legs are very baggy. In fact, the bottoms by my ankles are very loose and not even tight against my skin. Zero compression. They also are lined with fleece all the way up to the lower part of your neck and for me I like to have a better moisture wicking meshy material in the strap in back. Will be returning

Perfect Fit!

This is just to comment on the fit, which is perfect for me. I'm 5' 5", 29" waist, 125 lbs. so fairly slim and I got the Small size. I have yet to try it on a cold day, but my initial impression is it's well made and the material seems to be of very decent quality. Looks warm but we'll see. Right now I'm just glad I got the right size!
