Description

Stamped with approval by Mr. Rice himself.

Travis Rice stomps jumps large enough to make mere mortals quake with fear...and he does it while wearing the DC Status Snowboard Boot. A stiff flex keeps your ankles intact during rugged landings, and helps you stay in control at high speeds. The double-reel Boa Focus lacing system dials in a custom fit with the twist of a few knobs (yeah, we know that sounds really dirty).
  • Aerotech venting system releases excess heat to prevent swamp-foot
  • Boa Focus uses two reels to create a custom fit for all foot shapes
  • Constrictor Closure System reduces the overall amount of cable travel, eliminating pressure points and improving fit
  • Unilite outsole reduces weight by 30%
  • Welded backstay offers reliable support for powerful heelside turns

How much do these boots pack out?

Over 40 full days on the snow expect them to expand half a shoe size. You can fix it with the boa system though - no biggie

Good boot but not perfect

I've been riding DC Judges for my first two seasons and loved the fit of them. I really packed them in though and upper flex began to get a lot softer than when I originally purchased them so I decided to try the DC Statuses. First off, the DC Status is stiff and responsive. Leaning forward doesn't flex the top of the boot like my Judges do now, instead it leans the entire boot giving you really good toe-side response. The boot is low profile and pretty light too. I did run into a couple problems though...

* The straps that go over the top of your foot sometimes get stuck while tightening the boot. To remedy this you have to push on the fold to get it over the outside of the boot while turning the ankle boa. This isn't a huge deal
* The sole LOOKS nice but don't be fooled, those little spikes didn't give me much traction. I actually slipped the first time I took the boots out.
* The vents are nice but you have to watch out for puddles because water WILL make it through the vents into your liner and get your sock wet. This is pretty annoying. On hotter days I noticed my feet stay pretty dry though which is nice.
* I have some weird pinch points on my right foot from the liner "corset". I'm not sure if it is being unevenly tightened but I need to look into it more
* BOA is great for popping open and letting your foot take a break but one of the problems with the Status is when you release the top BOA and open up the tongue, the steel cable gets caught on the BOA plate which will prevent the top BOA from tightening completely. I ran into a TON of problems before I realized what was going on. Having to manually pull the cable over the plate every time you want to tighten the boot is annoying and the fact that it isn't completely intuitive that you must do this seems like a huge design defect to me (I'm guessing this is why tomassend felt the calf area was too wide because IMO the boot fits very similarly to my Judges once I made this adjustment). I've included a photo of what the problem is (see the middle cross of steel cabling caught under the plate)

Good boot but not perfect

DOES NOT FIT LIKE OTHER DC's

So I am torn on this one but reality is reality so I have to deal with that. This boot rides really well, it offers flex but only to a certain point.....then kicks in suport where you need it. Definitely a big mountain boot for sure, even though when you flex it initially it feels soft. Well done on DC's part for sure. The boot kills it.

HOWEVER (and this is where the reality kicks in) it does not fit like other DC boots.........like at all. I have a narrow foot, high running calves and thin shins and ankles, and a flat instep (bridge of foot). This is pretty much on par or the exact geometry that DC boots cater too, but the status is different. The Status does not cater to this shape at all. IF YOU ARE wide footed, have a big instep and calves that run lower in your leg or thick shins......this is your boot.

I rode these for a day and my foot was washing inside the boot like crazy. I am bummed, even though I enjoyed the flex and performance, the fit is not right for me. When going back country and hiking, it would not serve me well with the room I had, blister central.

IN CONCLUSION - Awesome performance of a boot, just make sure it fits your body geometry. If it does, I highly reccommend it.

I noticed the same thing. I have the soccer player legs (see: girly ankles), and usually wear a 9.5 in other DC boots, so I tried this in a 9.5.

It felt like there was a lot of slop, so I tried adding an extra insole. Better, but for this price, I don't want to jury rig anything.

I'm ordered the 9, and my foot fits MUCH better. Quite snug, to be sure, but I'm going to be backcountry touring on a splitboard for most of my turns, so I'd like my boots to fit more like ski boots than loose shoes.

I'll continue to wear around the house until I make my decision.

Just wanted to confirm your assessment for the skinny legs / narraw foot / flat(ish) foot crowd.

Issues with adheaive on sole

First let me start off with these boots are very comfortable. You will need to purchase 1 size larger than your normal shoe size. I've worn my status boots on 3 different rides. After that amount of time I noticed the rubber on the heal was starting to separate in 2 different places. For 350 dollars I was disappointed to see this. I'm not sure if I should return them for a replacement pair or just try another company altogether. Also if you ever have issues with DC products, good luck trying to get ahold of their warranty department. I've sent 2 emails over the last 2 weeks they have not responded yet.

Great boots, but...

I have last years model of these boots. Bought them last january, and I was really happy with them at first. They were stiff as expected, but they softened up rather quickly. Still using them and its ok, but I thougt they would last longer... (I have had DC boots in the past which stayed stiff longer) How is this years model?? Anyone...

DC Status worth the extra pennies

Im really in love with these boots. These boots are so stiff its unreal and im never going back to soft boots again. The Boa is great. No pressure point. Had to get a size larger than normal.

I'm 10 in DC judge, do you think i'll need a 11? thank you and sorry for my english !!

I like em

Not bad boots, they are very light weight, almost like wearing skate shoes. But as I was shredding Loveland last week, I did notice my toes got cold, aproblem I've never really had in the past. But besides that a kik ass boot all around

Responded on

When I first put these boots on I noticed my toes were cold too. But after a few runs things were fine.

Super stiff (09-10 Season Boot)

BOA Focus System (two BOA knobs) is so rad--the rest of the boot is merely good. It's incredibly stiff--even after about 20 days in them, they were still rubbing my right ankle in bad places. I'm going to swap the liners out with the liners from my old boots to see if it makes a difference this year.

If you're looking for a stiff, well built BOA system, these are your boots. Maybe look elsewhere if comfort is the biggest issue for you.

Sizing

If you purchase these boots, you'll want to get at least a size larger than your shoe size.. Super light weight.. I'll rate them higher once I use them and justify the cost.
