Judge, jury, and big-mountain executioner.

Court is in session and you want the DC Judge Boot on your side. A stiff boot built to give you the support you need in the backcountry, the Judge features the Boa H3 Coiler closure system to provide unmatched heel hold and fit. So whether you're sending booters or charging hairy lines, the Judge will rule in your favor.

The Boa H3 Coiler system features two Boa dials to allows you to independently adjust the tightness of the upper and lower zones of the boot so you can get it just the way you like it. Stainless steel laces won't corrode over time, which means you can trust your Boa system all season long. Originally developed by the military, the SuperFabric upper is virtually indestructible to prolong the life of your boot. The stiff flex keeps it supportive and responsive enough for charging steeps and sending jumps, while articulated construction ensures you still have enough flexibility to tweak grabs.

Stay comfy throughout the day in the Black liner, which features anatomical J-bars to keep your heel locked down, heat-moldable EVA foam for a custom fit, and an Impact G heel cushion to absorb shock from harsh impacts. The Aerotech ventilation system uses integrated vents in the liner and shell to transfer moisture away from your foot so it stays dry and warm. Lightweight Unilite material in the outsole shaves weight and increases rebound, while strategically placed rubber increases durability in high wear areas.

Poor construction lets it down

OVERALL: Despite the positives, the DC Judge is a poor quality boot that started breaking apart after just 10 days on the mountain.

PROS: minimal to nil heel lift despite aggressive freestyle riding. Excellent stiffness with great responsiveness, so sensitive that I had to adjust my style coming from my days of old rental gear. Dual boa allows customised fit that really locks the heel in. Fits my flat foot well. Great traction on ice including black ice; once had to walk with these on for 2 hours on icy roads and they gripped the road well enough that I didn't fall (though I did slip a few times).

CONS: quality really lets this boot down; the outer layer came apart after just 10 days thus allowing snow and water to leak directly into the boot and allowing the anchors for the boa laces to come apart. Certainly not comfortable at the start to the point it made my toes numb but they did break in quickly after just 5 days.

a good boot

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I ride the whole mountain, groomers and moguls. this boot has been pretty good. ive got about 10 days on it. The boot is stiff but not too stiff. feels just about right. slight forward lean but not too aggressive. my only complaints with this boot are two small things... 1) the boot does run a little small, im an 11.5 and i had to order a size 12. 2) the toe box area on this boot is a hair roomier than i would have wanted but its not bad. the boot seems like it will hold up well so far., esp the material they used around the toe box seems super strong. its been comfortable. I also purchased the Burton Concord, the toe box on the concord was a little more snug and true to size but i felt like the Judge was the more comfortable, more secure boot. i felt like the judge locked in my heel better than the concord.

Poorly constructed

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought these boot because the dual BOA. These are my first boots from DC shoes, and likely my last.

After 5-6 moderate uses, the books are showing significant wear and tear. The right toe panel on the left boot fell off partially then completely. The right rubber heel cup is separating from the back of the boot. Rubber has worn off completely along the calf seam. Their construction does not seem up to par with the rest of the industry.

I've never had a set of boots fall apart so quickly. I've been snowboarding 15+ years, using Burton, 32, and Vans boots. I contacted DC shoes with photos of the early wearing, and they were unwilling to send a replacement pair. So, a D- for customer service as well.

Stiff, but not 8 stiff

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I would say these boots are closers to 6 in stiffness. They are on the later part of the scale, but they are not so stiff that they are hard to walk in or feel like they have pain points that grab your feet.

The boot fits a little small, I wear a 42 (9) in pretty much every shoe I have and I ordered a 9 in these. I probably should be in a 9.5, but I was able to pack out the boot and heat the liner up to fit my foot well.

Note of caution, don't heat the footbed up too much as it will warp the moldable padding and you will be left with a uncomfortable footbed.

And the biggest reason why I bought the boot was for the double boa. I am infamous for taking 30 min to setup my boots just right. I never wanted boa in the past because it did not offer the customization I needed. But after using this double boa I am converted. Saves me probably 25 min of setup, and is secure for the entire day.

Great boot, DC has done a great job!

Great review, much appreciated. I am getting me a pair now.
