The Darn Tough Merino Wool Over-the-Calf Cushion Sock is made with a terry rib knit for a custom fit around your leg every time. Ribbing above the ankle keeps the sock from sliding around in your boots.

  • High-density cushioning on the bottom and around the lower leg helps to take the impact
  • Reinforced heel and toe for added durability in high-wear areas
  • Ring toe construction eliminates the seam for a comfortable fit
  • Lycra spandex for a snug fit

Bottom Line: Cushioning for your feet and shins without bulk.

Every review is 5 stars

Every one who reviewed these socks gave them a 5 star rating. That says something. High quality. Good elastic cuff, won't slide down. Great moisture transport. Just the right amount of padding. Must wear them multiple days to get them to smell. Darn tough is right, they will last for years and won't be all stretched out, pilled and played like the others.

Would these work well as a work sock, say in really high fire

Would these work well as a work sock, say in really high fire boots while working on a fire line?

Yes, Sam, they would. Merino is a natural flame retardant, and so would be a great choice for a fireline. Darn Tough is a great company as well.

They would work great. Merino is about as comfortable as they come and there is enough other stuff to add some durability.

It's just amazing!

By:

Never thought I'd get excited over a pair of socks, the fit is specitular! Have not skied yet with them on but I had to work outside in the cold 15degreeF and I didn't even think twice that my feet were not cold that has never happened before. My feet are always the first and the last thing to freeze and thaw. I will def. be buying more of these! The color is really cool also, it's more like a rusty orange in person.

Love Em

By:

I used to think socks were just socks until I tried these on. Merino wool is the best hands down! These socks make my other ones feel like sandpaper(Ok, maybe that's a bit much, but you get the idea). These are by far my favorite socks to date. So good, that I immediately went back and bought another pair. Not to mention these come with a lifetime warranty, which is a plus.

Who would have guessed that I would at some point in my life write a review about socks...
These deserve a good review, they're warm, they breathe, they stay up on the calves without being to tight and they're comfy.
Best ski sock I have ever tried on.

The Best

By:
January 26, 2011

These socks are very good. I recently bought 2 pairs of diferrent brand. The other brand bridgedale is not so good. It's ok but too thin. These socks fit right, are thick where they should be. Don't roll down from my calfs. Just an excellent pair of sock - highly recommended.

Great ski socks

By:
January 19, 2011

Took these gals out west last week for three days of skiing. Overall, I love them. Warm, thick and soft. The extra cushion around the shin really does help protect your bones from your boots. However, I was troubled a bit by how easily the socks would get cold, and stay cold. I believe the problem is that the socks maintain a lot of moisture in them, or draw in the moisture from my boots, so as soon as you go outside you're toes are cold (not good). On my last day, I gave these guys a run in the dryer right before heading out and had a much more pleasant experience.

Great in Jan. CO Skiing

By:
January 23, 2011

I wore one of these in Keystone on a -20 wind chill day. My toes only got cold once when I was standing still for a while. Great buy. Wore two of them layered the next day and toes didn't get cold one bit.

Indestructible

By:
December 28, 2010

I was beginning to get resigned to the fact that I would have to throw socks away after a year or two, because they would just wear out. But these socks look like I just took them out of the package. I've had two pair for 3 years and they still look and feel like they're on their first day. I don't buy socks from any other manufacturer. They make great dress socks and running socks as well. Well worth the $$$.

They aren't joking when they call them tough

By:
November 21, 2008

My family wouldn't give me Smartwool or other socks because I would just keep on destroying them. (Record time = 1 hour) It got to the point where I now wear sandals all the time so socks aren't a problem. My grandparents got me a pair of Darn Tough ski socks a couple of years ago, and they have still yet to show any wear. That's 40+ days of ski patrolling each year in them. I'm getting myself another pair because my other problem is loosing socks....

Super Cool Socks

By:
November 8, 2006

I love these socks!! They're my new obsession for outdoor gear. I actually wear these snowshoeing. They keep my feet warm even in those single digit temp. days. Great colors too. It's nice as a woman to get to choose from more feminine colors. They've been washed so much, but they never get scratchy. Cozy every time. I guess they guarantee them for life because they can; they never wear out! These are soooooooooo worth the purchase!

Comfy & warm

By:
January 4, 2007

These gloves kept my feet warm and dry on cold days skiing. Their cushioning is great - usually my shins hurt after cinching down my boots, but the padding on these means I don't have to loosen my boots between runs!

Awesome

By:
December 26, 2006

These socks rock. They were comfortable in my ski boots and in my hiking boots. They seemed to get a little smaller after I washed them (I didn't put them in the dryer) but it could just be my imagination. I wore them for heavy activity for about 8 hours and they never slid down or became uncomfortable.

More great socks from Darn Tough. They work great for tele skiing and are just the right thickness. A bit tighter in all the right places. I should probably just start changing over to all Darn Tough socks. Fun colors too!

Like liners for your liners

By: Backcountry.com Employee
October 27, 2006

These are impressive socks. The cushion version gives just enough padding to give that extra cush feel without sacrificing performance. Merino wool has a broader comfort range, so you don't overheat in moderate temps. Elastic in the right places keep your socks in place so there is no bunching up all day through. 5 stars.
