The Darn Tough Merino Wool Cushion Boot Sock wraps your foot and shin with high-density cushioning to lessen fatigue during long days on the trail. The merino wool fabric’s natural wicking and anti-odor properties ensure your feet (and your friends’ noses) stay comfortable, while the reinforced seams and durable construction mean you’ll keep using these socks season after season.
Bottom Line: Give aching, sweat-soaked feet the boot.
3 Years and counting Best Socks Ever purchased. Best for cold rugged mountain conditions. Warm even when Wet. Always comfy but a little to hot for summer.
The first time I bought a pair for my husband a few years ago for hiking, he just loved it. Now periodically I buy these socks for him, and with the recent purchase (different colors for his birthday), he wears them not only for hiking but also for everyday use.
The other day he wore them to the beach and got them wet so I asked him if his feet were cold. He replied, "my feet are...even when wet, it's warm."
These socks wash and dry perfectly, keeps your feet warm in the winter. My feet are always cold so I wear them all the time during the summer and in the winter, even for hiking all season. (My husband thinks it's too warm for him hiking in the summer)
Darn Tough makes the better sock. Better fit=superior fit inside boots, less blisters. Finer gauge yarn/fine gauge machines= more stitches per inch, better wicking, better cushioning, far more durable. The lifetime warranty is the kicker. It is an unconditional satisfaction lifetime guarantee. Plus made in Vermont
I love Smartwool socks, but I love Darn Tough socks more. They're just as comfy, but way less bulky and much more durable. It also seems as though they keep your feet at optimum temperature no matter what. Having written this review, I'm going to buy a couple more of these socks.
I really dig on the Darn Tough socks.. I feel the durability factor is just off the charts. I own about a dozen pairs of each (Smartwool & Darn Tough) and after a year of outdoor pursuits, I have to retire my Smartwools to casual, in-town use. (Meanwhile, I've had one pair of DTs for six years and I still hike in them, along with all the other ten or eleven) They're still comfy as all getup, but the sock looses its cushioning and elasticity. I never dry my woolies, and wash them in cold water. This has happened to a couple of paddling & climbing buddies, as well as my brother and dad. We're all sold on the Darn Toughs... You could always but a pair of each and make your own decisions.

You know, I can't tell if Darn Tough has good or bad business practice. I buy a pair and they last for six years, and I wear them tons! I buy a dozen more over the course of six years, and not a single pair has given me issues! (except one pair I was drying too close to the fire in the Boundary Waters and they caught on fire... my bad!) so how are they supposed to stay in business if I only need to buy new ones to replace ones that my dumb self ruins? They should rebrand their company "pretty tough" and make some average socks, I betcha they'd sell more! Man, I love these. I have a pair on right now!
I am a huge fan of wool for clothing. I have worn it in in nearly every weather condition and it has never failed me, except as socks that shrink and stiffen. Not these guys. i have a couple pairs that have been washed 30 times and are still fitting like new. I have walked through streams and gone on to hike another 10 miles with the socks drying and staying soft in the process. My sock drawer is being taken over with Darn Tough socks!
i wear them with my work boots and my hiking boots! darn tough makes the best socks out there. I've tried them all and am now phasing out all my other socks to have darn tough only. whether all-wool or a blend or coolmax, low-cut, ankle or crew. i love my darn tough socks and won't waste money on any other brands any more
