As classic a boot as the hills for which it is named.

The Danner Men's Stumptown Forest Heights II Boot is all about relaxed, vintage style—and boy, does it have plenty of it. Finely worked full-grain leather is used on the uppers, combined with a leather lining for a vintage look and feel. The sole is a Vibram 232 mini-lug outsole, so it provides plenty of traction for all your urban needs. The 6-inch shaft height won't feel like you're stomping around all day in combat boots, but it will provide plenty of support for zipping around the city on your mode of choice. With vintage styling all over, the Forest Heights II is as classic as the west hill of Portland from which it gets its name.

    Great quality, Great boots!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 10

These boots are made from a high quality leather and look really great. Not too heavy and really comfortable after you break them in. Just FYI look for the 'Made in the USA' or 'Portland, OR stamp' on the heel of the shoe for some Danner brands are imported now. It seems everything from China is less quality and when buying boots to last it really was a big deal for me.

Also Backcountry is a great company. They shipped them to me with free two day shipping and they had a great discount off the MSRP.

A great company, purchase, and brand.

Great Build Quality, With Some Quirks

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 8.5

My take on these boots is a little different than what I'm seeing from the other reviewers here. I've never had trouble with fitment on pair of shoes before, but these were really difficult for me.

I ordered myself an 8.5 and a 9, and both felt very tight around the ball of my foot and toes right out of the box. However, in the 9 my heel was very loose and slipped when I would walk so I kept the 8.5 and sent back the 9.

In addition to the fact that the boot seems disproportionately small up front compared to the heel area, the internal materials make it very hard to get your foot in - especially with wool socks. The bottom, rather than being leather, is made of a rubbery surface that your sock sticks to, and the top is made of a canvas-like fabric that also doesn't allow your foot to slide in. These two design choices compounded to make the boot supremely uncomfortable to get on, and then again to wear.

I ended up taking the boots to a cobbler to be stretched, and they're now comfortable and feel more like the other boots I own in terms of proportions. I decided to keep them and use the cobbler rather than send them back because I really do like the design and build quality, but I would have expected better materials internally and a more proportionate fit for a boot at this price point.

    Rad Boots, Love 'Em!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 12

I bought these boots on sale since the full-price tag was a bit intimidating. However, now that I've owned these boots for about 4 months, I can confidently say they're worth purchasing at full price. The craftsmanship is expert and it is evident that great care was taken in their creation. Even the laces feel to be of high quality. FYI - I purchased mine in the "Falcon" color and it's slightly darker than pictured.

Break-in wasn't too bad, but there is a break-in period. My first thought was that these were a bit too tight, but I stuck with it and they broke in to the point where I'm certain I chose the right size. (My running shoes, sandals, etc. are typically sz 12, which is what I chose for these.)

I really like their look, which is fairly easy to dress up/down, and although they aren't great for hiking, they can do the job.

Damn attractive and high quality, I'm glad I pulled the trigger on these and look forward to many years of wear. Be sure to pick up the boot dressing and polish them on occasion to boost the life of the leather.

    Awesome boots

I love these boots. These are A1 fall boots but also doubles nicely as winter boots because of really good grip. I used it through the fall and now wearing them very comfortably and confidently in winters.
Very well made. The shoe laces are amazing and would never get loose, first shoes I have ever seen with that.

    Daily winter office wear

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Unintended daily winter wear. Originally I thought these boots would be more for those snowy and icy sidewalk days I wanted to stay upright but not really comfortable enough for a daily wear. I was wrong - perfect shoe for daily wear. Great looks, traction, fit, all in a made in the USA package. Get a pair.

    great looking boot

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

Danners are a go to in my household. Known for durability, I bought these for my boyfriend as a gift. He wears them almost every day to work. They are easily dressed up and can be worn down as well. He says they are super comfortable and they look great.

    Classy and Durable

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I could not be more pleased with this boot. Ive waited a long time and held off on a lot of purchases in order to find the perfect boot.

The construction of these boots is superb. The stitching and details are finely crafted and the support structures in the heel and toe really hold the boots shape well. The leather is durable and rugged, but ages well as you break them in. Comfort is great after you break them in.

Not fantastic sole support, but not something I was really interested in for my boots, Id rather insert my own insoles if needed. Other wise the sole of these boots can take a pounding and the treads stay gripped on most any surface. The attachment of the sole to the rest of the boot is solid.

Sizing is where I had some issues. after Initially receiving them, I thought maybe I had picked a half size to large, but realized after wearing them for a while that the toe box is just a little long, and narrows as it extends, which if I had gone down a half a size, would cramp my toes badly. These things run true to size, though at first it doesnt seem it. Give them a chance before you return them for sizing. Mine are comfortable and feel natural now.

Like any good boot, the break in period is a little rough. It took me about a week to fully feel comfortable in these.

With all that said, conclusion is this: a 5 star boot for sure. These will last a LONG time, and only get more comfortable with age.
