    Solid.

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 9.5

Just going to put this out there Crater Rim boots may require some breaking in or the boots might be breaking your foot in, regardless once you have finished this process you will not regret it. As far as boots go they are solid, durable, and waterproof. That being said, since they are full leather upper, Gortex lined waterproof boots they don't really breath well or hardly at all. Be sure to bring spare socks or wear them in temperate to colder temperatures. I would not recommend these in warm or hot climates at all. Unfortunately when I picked these up Backcountry only had 10's they ended up not fitting and at the time 9.5 E (wide) was on back order only from Danner. I would recommend this product but would encourage the buyer to understand what is involved if they are new Danner and/or leather hiking boots.

    Solid.

Best Casual and Hiking Boot Ever

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 13 Wide

I bought these boots back in January and there has not been a single regret of buying them since. First off, truest fit of any shoe/boot I've ever bought. I wear a US 13 Wide, and this thing is the most comfortable boot I've ever worn. At first I thought it would probably just be a casual boot based on how comfortable it was, because there was no way a boot this comfortable would be able to handle the abuse I lay down. I WAS WRONG. I've used this boot on Hikes in Alaska, California, Washington, Arizona and Oregon. I use it as my casual motorcycle boot as well. I cannot express how awesome this boot is. The Gore-Tex works extremely well! BUT, if you happen to get in water over your boot, they do not dry out easily. The exterior of the boot when drenched will dry off in about a day or two, but the inside without a boot dryer can take upwards of a week to dry out. Besides that this boot is one of the best purchases I've ever made.

    Durable, comfortable, US Made

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had these boots for over a year now, and they still feel and look great. For a heavier boot, they felt great right out of the box, and the full leather upper has protected my feet from all manner of sharp rocks, thorns, and nettle. Made in the USA is just icing on the cake. Fits bit narrow in the toe, but the regular width felt better for my foot than the wide. Nice to have the option though.

    Unanswered Question

Alright so I've been trying for my first "serious" pair of backpacking boots for a 21 day trek in New Mexico at altitudes between 6,000-11,000 ft carrying a 40-60 lb pack. I've bought 3 pair of Crater Rims and decided that the 10 wide with high vol insoles fit best. However, I have a troublesome right foot that doesn't like to stay in the heel in any pair of boots I try. So my doubt got the best of me and I got a pair of Asolo TPS 520 GVs. Now I can't decide between the two. Note I paid full price for the Asolo's and got the Crater Rims from a competitor for about $100. Basically, am I splitting hairs or are the Asolo's the superior boot?
