Dissapointing Dakine

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I travel for a living and have used Eagle Creek for years. They have a great warranty and have replaced my bags a couple of times-no questions asked. A co-worker had one of the Dakine rolling duffels, they're different, so I thought I would give it a shot. I get the cost of this bag is nowhere near what I paid for my Eagle Creek bags, but that being said, I am really dissapointed in the Dakine Duffel. The VERY FIRST TIME I used the bag the handle broke. THE VERY FIRST TIME!! So I call up customer service and let them know I will be returning the bag when i get home in a month. That's when I get lesson #2 (#1 is you get what you pay for) when I'm told I can't just return the bag for a refund. I have to take photos of the bag and submit them to the warranty department, explain to them what my issue is and THEY will decided if they're going to replace the bag or refund my money. The fact that I have zero desire for a replacement bag matters only to me. Oh, and no timeframe for hearing back from the warranty department, they're a very small group, according to customer service. Again, I didn't purchase one of their more expensive duffel bags, which I am grateful for. I have a feeling my money and I have gone our separate ways but I really thought the bag would make it longer than 2 flights. So, onto the "warranty/refund" process but I'm not holding out much hope, really, of even hearing from them. And IF, IF they send me a new duffel it'll go straight to Habitat For Humanity and I'll take the tax deduction. Thanks DAKINE for reminding me that when you got a good thing going to stick with it. And if you're looking for a GOOD, QUALITY bag, with a GREAT warranty/return process, check out EAGLE CREEK!!

Unanswered Question

The pyrite and townsend look to be different bags. The townsend appears to have a zippered compartment at the end with the handle. The pyrite appears to be one complete opening from the top without the end pockets.

Is the townsend different?
